I hail from London/UK. I am a VE scholar with almost 20 years of experience in the field. In recent years I have been framing and theorising the nascent field of Critical Virtual Exchange, i.e. VE through the equality, diversity inclusion and access lens which leads quite naturally to the concept of critical Internationalisation at Home. I’m just an ESL teacher at a very unique school, in Amadora, Portugal.

Those of you who were at León’s conference might have heard of the school of 50 shades of chocolate! Guess what… those are my boys and girls!

I have been a teacher for 23 years now and I have taught students from Kindergarten to MBA level, both in Portugal, Spain and even in Taiwan, remotely. But my heart has always been in Portugal and I just got a permanent place at my beloved school with students from 29 (!!!!) different nationalities, my dear 50 shades of chocolate!

Thanks to the opportunities VE’s with Valiant Projects have provided us with, my students are now more aware of how wide their horizons can be.

But student teachers should be required to have a VE with a school in a in a different/foreign country before starting their apprenticeship year. It would be eye-opening and a better real life experience if they ever decide to work abroad.

I am Alexis Jahiel Buckley, Professor of English at Polytech Engineering School in Orléans, France. I hold 2 Masters degrees in English from the Sorbonne University.

Today, October 14 is also the kickoff day for a VE put in place between two of us here at Polytech and 3 professors at Carinthia University!

My motivation for international exchanges comes from a desire to enrich the worldview of students through interculture projects. Furthermore, I feel it is essentiel to enable students to hone their use of technology for professional ends as well as their teamworking skills.

I am looking forward to these Erasmus days!

I teach software development related courses, international projects and Virtual Reality at AP University of Applied Sciences in Antwerp (Belgium). Currently I am also coordinating a International Training Program: “Expert Training in AI & IoT for product development in East Africa”. ( kih.kist.ac.tz ). I am aslo International Coordinator of our IT Department.

I am Dr. Raquel Sánchez Ruiz, from the Faculty of Education in Albacete, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), Spain, where I have been teaching BA and MA studies since 2008.

I am interested in VE and COIL and also in eTwinning, especially applied in bilingual education programmes.

Passionate about virtual exchanges, peer learning, intercultural dialogue, sustainability as well as online multilingual and multicultural communities. Over the past few years, I have been coordinating and moderating the eTandem E+VE project and the Arqus moVEs virtual exchange within the Arqus European University Alliance.

eTandem and Arqus moVEs are multilingual, multicultural, and interdisciplinary virtual projects that prepare students prior to their mobility abroad.

I am very happy to participate in this network. I have a PhD in Agricultural Sciences, Department of Agriculture, Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU). I work as head of the Plant Production Department at the Experimental Farm (45 ha) of HMU. My scientific topic is on biodiversity, native Mediterranean plant species (with nutritional and medicinal properties, tolerant to abiotic stress), ecosystem services and nature-based solutions. In addition, I work with the design and implementation of educational interventions, workshops and Living Labs with stakeholders. I am a member of several COST Actions with interesting and fruitful virtual or in person collaborations.

We’ve successfully implemented a number of interdisciplinary VE projects, and the positive feedback from our students continues to inspire us to pursue these initiatives, even in challenging circumstances. VE offers students an excellent opportunity to broaden their horizons and develop critical intercultural communication skills.

It’s a wonderful opportunity for me to be here today among like-minded educators, to share our experiences, and to build new connections that can further enrich the world of Virtual Exchange. I look forward to learning from all of you and collaborating on exciting new projects.

I am a Clinical Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Studies at University of Florida. I am engaged in work related to teacher education, early childhood studies (focusing on birth to age 8), and internationalization of curriculum. I have shared my work through several international conferences and support organizations and higher education faculty to globalize their curriculum through coursework and open resources. I have completed several virtual exchange projects with partners in Ecuador, Algeria, Honduras, and the United States. I recently led my first study abroad program to Quito, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. I am happy to have the opportunity to share work here and see the great work being done by the other talented speakers. I am open to collaborate with new partners and see what new ideas we can create together!

Since 2016, I manage NICAT which brings Jewish and Arab together for both youth and adults through innovative and rich programs. NICAT is a model of coexistence, strengthening social resilience while promoting shared living and raising awareness among the international community

I am experienced in managing non-profits with vast knowledge in working with private and public organizations, as well as international fundraising & networking.

I am looking forward e-meeting you all the next few days! I have been working in International Education for at least 20 years in the U.S. The past seven years I have been focusing my work on COIL/VE (GOLE at SJU). I work mainly with faculty and I accompany them in the process to integrate COIL in their courses. Our work at SJU has taken us in many parts of the world and we seek to expand further our collaborations.

Hubertus has worked as a spokesperson for international customer visits in the German steel industry (AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke/Saarstahl) and taught at multiple universities, including Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg and TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Since 2018, he has been a freelance instructor at HAWK Hildesheim/Göttingen/Holzminden and has taught online since 2016.

I serve UNICollaboration as Managing Director and I have been working in the HE field as a project manager since 2009, first at the Padova University IRO - where I also taught Project Management to Master and PhD students, as well as educators and administrators - and then as a freelancer. I have been training on VE and I am particularly interested in VE for staff as an opportunity for continuous professional development.

I am also tutor of expert evaluators for the Italian National Agency and collaborate with UNIMED as consultant.

As a freelancer, I support HEIs as trainer in project management and I am also a conference interpreter, which is actually my professional background ;)

I look forward to liasing with you online, especially to reflect on impacts of VE from the perspective of an organisation - UNICollaboration - which has been providing professional development opportunities for staff in HE and beyond since 2018.

I'm an Italian-Spanish teacher of ESP at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain). I recently defended my PhD thesis about the impact of telecollaboration on the development of pragmatic competence and intercultural communicative competence.

I'm passionate about interculturality, telecollaboration/VE, pragmatics, and multilingualism, as I think they all reflect the intercultural and interconnected world we live in. I'm planning to get my new students involved in VE projects to enrich their undergraduate experience.

Over two months, students learn by doing— developing teams, building solutions, managing cultural differences and time zones, and presenting their findings at a virtual conference to global partners. We've just started our 7th edition of the GCSC with 500- students from 14 countries and 22 universities across the world. 🌏

I`m Susana Rodrigues, the Coordinator of International Projects Department of Atlântica - University Institute. My name is Mahboubeh Rakhshandehroo, my nickname is Maha. Nice to meet you virtually :)

I received my PhD in Human Sciences (Critical Studies in Transformative Education) from Osaka University, and I am currently a lecturer at Osaka University, Japan. I am originally from Iran. 

I have used COIL in teaching since 2019, and I have worked with different countries. This year I am collaborating with universities in the US, Brazil, Belgium, Portugal, and Germany. 

My research interests include EMI/CLIL support, English native speakerism, multiculturalism, COIL, and sustainable internationalization.
