The standard we are focusing on is R.CS.4 (Reading. Craft & Structure. 4): Interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text, including technical, connotative, and figurative meanings, and analyze how specific word choices shape meaning and tone. I have included words and phrases that Maria Arana used in her text. Do the necessary research and close-reading, noticing and noting context clues of importance. In your Padlet response, explain what the author wants the reader to see and/or know. Use the RACE acronynm to organize your response. You should have at least three sentences if you are answering the question, citing evidence, and elaborating on that evidence. Use thought-provoking, sophisticated language when writing. Show command of the Conventions of Standard English (CSE) by editing your response before submission for careless grammar, usage, and mechanical errors (G.U.M.). You only need to explore three of the five columns.
