Known for his contribution of the <strong>discovery of anesthesia.<br></strong><br><strong>"While there is a chance of the world getting through its troubles, I hold that a reasonable man has to behave as though he were sure of it. If as the end your cheerfulness not justified, at any rate will have been cheerful." <br><br></strong>The American Dental Association honored Wells posthumously in 1864 as the discover of modern anesthesia. In 1870, the American Medical Associao recognized his achievement. A monument to Horace Wells was raised in the Place des Etats-Unis, Paris.
