A regional survey was recently carried out by public sector partners to seek views from residents across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire about the experiences they, and others may have, when trying to access a range of public services from housing to health. From these results we have produced four equality objectives that will help us to ensure services are provided and accessible to all residents and service users irrespective of their age, gender, sexuality, religion, language preference or disability and that we eliminate unlawful discrimination. A Strategic Equality Plan for 2024-2028 will be produced, showing how we will achieve our equality objectives.

We would like to ask for your views on whether the equality objectives will contribute to meeting your needs and what else you think we should do. All data will be held in accordance with our Information governance policy and the Data Protection Act.

Hywel Dda University Health Board

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA)has some funding available to install an EV charging point to serve a local community within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The funding is from the National Parks Partnership and BMW and PCNPA are therefore putting a call out to community groups and not-for-profit organisations who would like to have an EV charge point installed. 

As well as a useful local facility, payments from car charging may create a small amount of revenue for the successful community group. The successful community group will need to have a car parking space which could hold the charge point (“Pod Point”) and capacity to manage the online platform (“back end”) for the charger. 

Funding is through a partnership between National Parks and BMW UK & Ireland and therefore the beneficiary organisation will be required to:

1. Agree to partnership branding on charging posts for 3 year period

2. Agree to report on usage of the posts on a quarterly basis for a period of 3 years from installation.

3. Be accepting that social media posts will be delivered around these charging points and beneficiary organisations will be asked to share if appropriate. 

4. Sign transfer agreement on installation.

5. Note that the Pod Point platform will be free to use during the term of the BMW/NP partnership following which there will be a charge.

Registered charities, non-profit companies limited by guarantee, or statutory bodies can apply for up to £10,000; constituted charitable organisations with no charity number can apply for up to £2000.

The Fuel Poverty fund aims to support economically disadvantaged areas and to target grassroots organisations that serve historically underrepresented and marginalised groups. Applications which achieve a long-term impact by helping beneficiaries save money on their household energy bills on an ongoing, sustainable basis are especially encouraged.

Successful projects will need to meet one of the following themes:

• Helping individuals to access energy tariff advice or support accessing schemes, including, but not limited to, winter fuel discounts and Social Fund schemes

• Providing energy efficiency or heating solutions to people living in fuel poverty

• Operating a ‘Warm Bank’ in a community building

• Improving energy efficiency in a community building used as a warm space

• Providing warm packs to vulnerable households e.g. radiator bleed keys, heavy curtains, blankets, radiator foil etc.

• Innovative approach to combating fuel poverty

National Grid provides electricity to eight million customers across the Midlands, South West England, and South Wales. Funding is available for registered charities, charitable companies, unregistered community organisations, and statutory bodies based in these locations who are supporting households experiencing fuel poverty. You can check if your organisation is in an eligible area here.

The programme is now live and accepting applications until midnight on Friday 10th November 2023. Organisations that complete applications will be informed of the outcome of their application by the end of November 2023. Projects must be delivered and funding spent by 31st March 2024.

The charity aims to help those close to the patient during the illness and through the bereavement period.

The Hospice at Home service is available 365 days of the year and operates a 24/7 on-call service.

In recent years, more and more people have made some kind of Advance Care Plan. This is a document intended to be used if a person becomes unable to make decisions for him/herself.

Many people write a simple Statement of Wishes and Care Preferences (SWACP) which may include:

• How much information they would like to receive about their condition

• Where they would prefer to be cared for

• Who they would like health professionals to consult about their care (Eg: relative, friend)

• General thoughts on treatment they would want and not want. Some people state for example that they would want only symptom relief if they were seriously ill.  Some people use a SWACP to make it clear they do want active treatment

People who have very strong feelings about not wanting a specific type of treatment, can make what is known as an Advance Decision to Refuse Treatment (ADRT).  If this is written correctly, it is a legally binding document.  It is quite simple to do and does not normally require legal advice.

The Paul Sartori Hospice at Home Service are also able to work with people that may not be able to make decisions themselves. Please contact them in this instance and they can discuss how to help.

The Paul Sartori Hospice at Home Service has staff who can provide assistance with Advance Care Planning, but they would recommend that you do some reading first.

The Wales Centre for Public Policy (WCPP) and the Resourceful Communities Partnership (RCP) would like to invite you to an interactive, online workshop on 30 January 2024 focused on improving multisector collaboration to enable community action and wellbeing. The workshop will provide an opportunity to generate tangible ideas for establishing or improving collaborations between public, third and community sectors ‘on the ground’. Rather than provide a generic list of ‘ingredients’ for effective collaboration, we will present findings on specific actions taken to support collaboration in different contexts from our review of research and practice evidence. The workshop will engage with these findings and, crucially, add to them by drawing on the expertise and experiences of workshop participants.

Earlier this year we contacted and invited you to share your views about the future of children and young people’s urgent and emergency care services at Withybush and Glangwili hospitals.

Our 12-week public consultation, held between 26 May and 24 August 2023, sought the opinions of members of the public, health board staff, organisations, and our broader community on three options for the future of urgent and emergency children’s services at Withybush and Glangwili Hospitals.

Following a series of temporary changes made to paediatric services since 2016, the health board are seeking to find a longer-term solution that will be in place until the proposed new urgent and planned care hospital is developed.

These proposed changes to paediatric services are part of our longer-term ‘A Healthier Mid and West Wales’ strategy.

In the three options, access to children’s emergency care will be retained at Glangwili Hospital’s emergency department, and minor injuries for children will continue to be treated at both Withybush and Glangwili Hospitals. Systems are already in place to ensure that any child or young person with critical conditions arriving at Withybush Hospital has the best care available and in the most appropriate place. This will continue as part of the new service.

To ensure independence of the consultation process, Opinion Research Services (ORS) was appointed to advise and collate and manage the consultation responses. This included the production of a final report on the consultation findings. This report can now be found on the health board’s website at: Future Children Services - Hywel Dda University Health Board (nhs.wales)

The consultation process for the future of urgent and emergency care services in Withybush and Glangwili Hospitals has achieved Best Practice Quality Assurance accreditation from the Consultation institute.

As part of the formal consultation process, a number of health board stakeholder groups have since been asked to conscientiously consider the ORS report. In doing so, they were asked to consider:

• Are there any further mitigations the health board should be considering?

• Do you think the report has identified all the equalities issues?

• Are there any final points you would like to make, anything not captured in the report?

What happens next?

The ORS final report, together with the output of the conscientious consideration process, the equality and health impact assessment, and the technical and commercial reports, will be considered at a meeting of the Board on at 9:30am on Thursday, 30 November. During the meeting, Board members will be asked to deliberate on the key findings from the ORS report and be asked to consider the stakeholder groups’ own considerations. The Board will then decide on which option to proceed with.

PAVS has invited Richard Richards, the Community Engagement Lead for ARA Recovery for All, the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN) provider for Wales who will tell us about the work of the organisation, the support it can offer organisations and individuals.  

​This includes free support to people experiencing problems with gambling and those that are effected by gambling. Gambling Related Harms goes wider than the impact on the individual and covers the adverse impacts from gambling on the Health and Wellbeing of individuals, families, communities and society. 

​The session will also introduce their training programme called ‘Bet You Can Help’, which aims to reduce gambling harms by raising awareness among professionals and also equip them with the skills to identify, support and signpost individuals experiencing gambling harm.

The Welsh Government is interested in hearing more about the experiences of adults who live with persistent pain.  

We are looking for people to: 

- join a focus group of people living with persistent pain
- join a focus group of people caring for or working with people living with persistent pain
- share your experiences which may be used as a written case study or filmed with your consent for use as a video story.

The focus groups will initially meet twice, on 11 December 2023 and in the new year. As a result of this work the groups may continue to meet a few times a year in the future. The groups will inform Welsh Government on the issues confronting those living with persistent pain and those who support them.

After the success of the course earlier this year, we are running another 5-day Social Forestry taster. This course is aimed at anyone who is interested in working with groups in nature, doesn't have much experience and wants to find out more. They will have a go at a range of activities that they could use with others, learn about planning and health and safety and have a go at leading a session for the rest of the group. At the end of the course, participants will be signposted to opportunities for further training, volunteering and employment.

This course is funded and so is open to anyone who is under/un-employed. The woodland site is outdoors with covered areas, no electricity or running water. Drinking water and hot drinks will be provided. Trainees are expected to bring their own lunch and make their own way there though some support can be offered with transport if needed. This year we're helping people to check for atrial fibrillation, which lots of people live with and don't even know it.

Atrial fibrillation is when your heart beats with an irregular rhythm. When this happens, your heart won't empty all of the blood out of its chambers with every beat. Then, if your heart chambers aren't empty, the leftover blood can form clots which travel from your heart into the brain, blocking off blood flow and causing a stroke.

Atrial fibrillation can happen to anyone at any age, but you're more likely to get it the older you get.

At the Stroke Association, we know that there are hundreds of thousands of people who are living with atrial fibrillation but don't know it! This is because not everyone has obvious symptoms.

You can check yourself or your friends and family at home, with a simple pulse check.

Outdoor Connections Fund – New Round 5 – Funding Opportunity!!

Dear All,

We are pleased to announce that there will be another round of the Outdoor Connections Fund!

Apply now for Capital funding of up to £1,500 for communities wishing to improve outdoor spaces helping older people, including through multi-generational groups, to meet and benefit from those spaces. Projects must show that their main beneficiaries are Pembrokeshire residents and communities.

Who can apply: Constituted voluntary and community groups and social enterprises, town and community Councils, Churches, Chapels and Places of Worship which can show evidence of wider community benefit. Eligible applicants may apply on behalf of less formal groups.

Deadline: Monday 22^nd January 2024

Funds must be spent by: 31^st March 2024.

Our mission - to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities and the environment through nature-based activities. 

We are beginning a new project called Camau Gwyrdd (Green Steps) to support new audiences to access community growing.  It’s a climate focussed project funded by the Lottery which will encompass climate justice and community resilience. Our project aims to encourage people from across Wales to take their first steps for climate action. 

We have inspiring member projects across Wales who can offer fully funded, bespoke supported sessions to your group.  These could range from a simple garden tour and tea, to gardening activities, crafts in the garden, cooking and eating locally grown food and carbon literacy.  Our ‘champions’ can also deliver sessions to you to support you to start your own community growing journey on your own site.

Carer Aware Review

Carer Aware: Online review with unpaid carers

The Carer Aware* project was created to improve the experiences of unpaid carers in health and social care services.

The project has split into three main parts:
Exploratory phase over the first year – Information gathering from both unpaid carers and sector professionals
Delivery phase over the middle years – Training to professionals, mostly co-delivered with carers. Guidance & resources for professionals, co-produced with carers. Support for organisations on how to co-produce with carers.
Legacy phase over the final year – ‘Legacy’ or what will be the impact after the end of the project, and what further resources are needed. Delivery of training and resources also continues during this phase.

We’re about to enter the final year (April 2024-March 2025) but before doing so we wanted to hear again from carers in order to:
- report back to you on progress so far   
- let you know what we’re thinking of for the final year
- hear from you if you think we’re focusing on the right things for the final year
- consider the legacy and future of health and social care.

We’ll send you a brief report on what we’ve done so far one week before the meeting in case you’d like the chance to think about it in advance, but it’s also fine to just join the online meeting on the day without having looked at it first.

Creative Curiosity is a project in partnership with Preseli Cares, PAVS and Hywel Dda Health Board with the aim to help tackle the health inequalities experienced by the rural and Welsh-speaking communities of North Pembrokeshire. We will harness the power of creativity, and spark community curiosity to co-produce solutions to social care issues at a community level.

WHAT THE SCHEME COVERS

The Energy Efficiency Scheme provides:

• Grants of up to £1,000 towards an energy survey at your property

• Grants of up to £25,000 towards a maximum of 80% of the cost of undertaking the identified work

• Loans to cover any remaining costs of installation

• Connections with organisations who already work closely with the volunteer sector and can provide surveys, advice and installation

Round 2 of survey grants are now open for applications. Installation grants are also now open for applications until 31 March 2024.

Welsh Government is seeking to build a better understanding of online hate in Wales and to consider issues unique to the nation. To this end, the Welsh Government’s Programme for Government for 2021-2026 contains a commitment to: ‘work with the tech companies and media platforms to tackle hate crime and misinformation.’ This commitment is also reflected in Welsh Government’s Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan, which contains an action to ‘counter online racist hateful attitudes’. 

Welsh Government is seeking to build links with representatives from social media companies with the intention of initiating informal discussions about options and possibilities, and identifying collaborative ways of working to address hate crime in online spaces. Such a collaboration might include establishing channels of communication to relay concerns and findings which Welsh Government collect through engagement work with criminal justice agencies, third sector and members of the public.

Our programme aims to support children’s groups and organisations, such as play groups or sports classes. However, we are open to applications from other projects, as long as their primary objective focuses on providing services to children.

HEIW has commissioned Skills for Health to work with them in order to: 

1. Raise the profile of voluntary sector organisations working in a mental health setting. 

2. To recognise and celebrate those who have made an enormous impact by volunteering and delivering voluntary services alongside our mental health workforce.  

3. Encourage closer partnership working between the voluntary and public sectors.  

4. Understand your current and future skills and knowledge gaps, to help shape roles, careers and training pathways to meet those needs.

The Pembrokeshire Community Fund, with a quarterly allocation of £5,000, seeks to empower local charities, voluntary organisations, community groups, social enterprises, clubs, and societies working within the county. Applications are welcome from projects across diverse areas, including:

• Social Services: Providing vital support and resources to vulnerable individuals and groups.

• Environmental Sustainability: Promoting environmental awareness, conservation, and responsible practices.

Bluestone Foundation Community Events will offer a new way for Pembrokeshire organisations to showcase their work whilst raising funds to support their activities. In this exciting opportunity the Blue Lagoon Water Park will be open to the public and ticket sales shared between the chosen group and the Bluestone Foundation. Interested groups will need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to be considered for this fundraising initiative.

This opportunity is worth up £5,000 depending on the number of tickets sold.

This project is designed to build confidence and develop resilience in older people, which has been proven to lead to better health and improved wellbeing. Improvements in confidence and resilience also contributes to higher levels of social and communal interaction, which, in turn, increases participation in local communities and ability to access local services. 

This project provides support for older people to help them participate in and connect to their community with the support of trained volunteers.

The project provides two services: A community based, face to face support service called Assist and Connect and a remote telephone listening service called Listen and Connect.

Both services provide friendship, conversation and support, while relieving isolation, loneliness and worry.
