He was stationed at Fort Lewis Washington. He also trained at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was an Artillery Surveyor and he gave the coordinates for the 105 and 155 Howitzer’s, tanks, and Motar’s. My uncle also was trained to operate his vehicle, M16, M203 Grenade Launcher, combat lifesaver, and did surveying. The unique thing about our relationship is that I'm proud of my Uncle Thomas and all the amazing things he did. My father was a corporal in the 10th Mountain Lite Infantry during 2006 and 2007. He was awarded a purple heart and an Army Accommodation with Valor. While in Iraq during the most important part of the war called the Surge, he got extended because of this and ended up staying our months over his year that he was supposed to stay. This ended up being 443 days for him in a combat zone.

Thomas Lynnwood Davis (Chuck Davis and my uncle) and Estelle Marie Davis (My Tie Tie) were in the Air Force and retired in 1996. I love them so much and they even risked their lives to save others! My Tie Tie, when trying to help someone, broke her whole leg and wa taken to the hospital. She couldn't walk for months just to help someone become safe. This is a photo of my Uncle Don, who is married to my auntie!. He joined the Army after he graduated high school - he was 19 years old. He joined the Army as Private and retired as a First Sergeant. He retired after serving 27 years in the Army. He traveled to many places around the world like: - Fort Benning, Georgia - Camp Casey, Korea - Wiesbaden, Germany - Fort Drum, New York He deployed two times to Afghanistan and once to Iraq. His greatest accomplishments while deployed overseas is that he did not lose any of his Soldiers and he brought them all home safe to their families. He met my Auntie Patty when they were both stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia.

This is a photo of my Auntie Patty. She served 9 years in the Army. She made the decision to leave the Army and support her husband’s military career and traveled with him to different Army bases, which I call that true love and I’m so happy for her. Her favorite place was when they were stationed in Germany for three years. They traveled to Paris and Italy. One of the places they visited to show respect was Dachau concentration camp. It was an eerie feeling walking into the crematorium area and imagining what took place there. She says,

“Traveling around the world, meeting new different people, and learning new cultures really made me understand diversity. Also, the best thing about traveling to new places is trying the different foods and flavors. We definitely learned how to cook different types of meals.”

My Papa started navy career in Rosecrans California He started his training here Soon next shipped to Vietnam, it was a dangerous mission cause there was Vietnam war it was so frightening not knowing how in dangerous mission their in, though they survived its mission, next following duty ship travelled to small islands like Palau, and many other little islands delivering food and goods that they needed, their next mission was travelled of to other places part of training Next station is Guam his home town where he’s born was his best station cause he gets to. See family and be home. Papa has lived his life to the fullest until cancer ( lung cancer) ended his life 2021. We truly miss him so much. He was so funny, and the shining star of the room. I loved playing cards with him and he truly means everything to me. I know he is having the blast in heaven right now and enjoying heaven with his mom!. Rest easy papa!.

this is my brother who graduated the navy academy 2022 I asked him “what motivated you to join the navy?” And I asked “how was your experience at boot camp” he says “I decided to join around my birthday bc that's when everything in Ukraine was getting serious and bc chase(my best friend) joined and i couldn't let my best bud be out there by himself i wanted to do somethin special with my life and become apart of something bigger than myself ,, I'm currently an E3 or or seaman I work as a CTT (cryptology technical technician) and my experience in boot camp was rough at the start that was the first time I was cut off from all social media family and society in my life I missed everyone I loved but I knew I was makin everyone one at my hometown and family proud ,, in boot camp everyone always said remember why u joined and use that as motivation to get thru all the hardships and adversity in boot camp after a few weeks things started to become routine I was RCPO (recruit chief petty officer) and that means I was the leader of my division which consisted of like 80-100 teenagers all working to one goal to becoming a sailor ,, boot camp was all about having each others back and looking out for one another bc those were my brothers for 10 weeks a lot of bonding and merriment went into that ,, I grew up an athlete so there wasn't really any physical challenges for me but the hardest thing for me in boot camp was the mental challenge the will to get up every morning and prepare for the day to stay motivated throughout the day and be able to listen and execute everything I was asked of ,, graduating was a feeling only military members know ,, after a hard 10 weeks full of adversity mental struggles physical struggles budding heads with a few fellow recruits and all the chaos that went down ,, I felt more than achieved i was proud of myself bc before those 10 weeks started i was a completely different person and i became someone I never sought myself to be” as his sister I’m so proud of him and so thankful to call him my “big brother” he has dedicated his life for our country and I’m truly blessed. He has worked so hard through Highschool struggling and it was so hard to watching him go through challenges in his life but I’m so honored to watch him dig himself out of a hole and do him and what he loves. I look up to him everyday and he is my inspiration.

My grandfather, Burnell Franklin was drafted to serve in the army in the Vietnam War from 1965-1967. He operated a bulldozer to clear the land to make roads. He had to go up (the highest mountain in Vietnam(25,000 feet) with a bulldozer to clear the mountain and went down the mountain with the bulldozer to clear a road coming down so that they can get equipment up and down the mountain. As one drove the bulldozer the other watched out for the enemy. In the picture above my grandfather is standing in front of the tire of the bulldozer.

My name is Dale and this is my Poppy, Sam Goodman Smith Jr., that died while my Mommy was pregnant with me. My middle name, Goodman, is the same as his. He went to boot camp for the Navy but started sleepwalking in the last two weeks and was not allowed to fly out with his platoon. He earned a medical discharge along with another soldier in his platoon. As him and the other soldier were waiting for their transport home, the rest of their platoon headed to their next destination when the plane exploded and the whole platoon was killed. My Poppy and the other soldier watched this happen. I thank God that my Poppy was not on the plane that day because my Mommy or I would not be here today. Even though I did not get to meet him and know him, my Mommy has always told me great things about him and great things he did in his life.

This is my sister Mylene we call her Meme, I asked her “can you tell me the experience in the army?” She said “girl, that’s a lot” hahah she said “I come from a family with all military background, from all different branches of service. Growing up it was my dream to join the service. We had just moved to Bluffton, SC and I was attending Bluffton Middle. We were in the lunch room and here come in there big high schoolers and a really tall man all dressed in these fancy uniforms. They started talking to everyone and making announcements about this military program they are apart of; JROTC. (Army) They said if anybody has any questions please come down to our table. I was already intrigued by their uniforms, I already knew I wanted to go sign up. The next week we were introduced to the chain of command and the LTC John K Carothers. Immediately I was so excited to start this new journey. I enjoyed learning the fundamentals of the army and just knew this was going to be my future. I spent 5 years with this program. From my 8th grade year, all the way to my senior year of high school. I learned a tremendous amount of knowledge and discipline, not only for the military but life skills as well. I soon heard of the different teams you could participate in after school, if applicable on try-out day. I was very interested in the Raider Team, the more physically fit club. I then knew all I wanted was to be on that team. I pushed myself to workout and practice to be sure I made the team. The day came and low and behold I made the team! Throughout the years I competed in various competitions and I was awarded a tremendous amount of awards for hard work and dedication, not to mention my excellent physical fitness. By the end of my high school career I was awarded to be the Battalion Executive Officer of my unit. Overseeing almost over 300 cadets. Managing an entire battalion was scary, but made me learn organization, team work, and structured planning. As my high school career came to an end, I knew I wanted to join the Army right away. As graduation approached I had the jitters. But a year least on February 14,2017 I enlisted into the United States Army. I signed a 3 year contract as an 88M ( Motor Transport Operator) I was sent to BCT (Basic Course Training) in Fort Sill, OK where I was there for 10 weeks. Honestly was the best part of my career. I was then sent to Fort Leonardwood, MO for my Advanced Individual Training (AIT) for 6 weeks. Met my best friends for life over there! After getting all the knowledge for my MOS (Military Occupational Specialty), I graduated and was ready for the real deal. I was given my first duty station: Fort Wainwright, AK. Of all places …. But that’s where god sent me for the right reasons I suppose. I spent 3 years in a Support Battalion transporting necessary loads all over Fort Wainwright and local bases. My hard work and dedication was still carrying on into my new career and I was promoted vastly again. I drove military vehicles over 1,700 miles in support of the Army. I was awarded a National Defensive Medal for serving my country. I was also awarded an Army Achievement Medal for supporting the Brigade as we prepared for Deployment. And of course my physical fitness did not stop. I scored a 300+ on every single Physical Fitness Test taken on Fort Wainwright. I was the mostly physically fit female on my base. All the training I have learned, all the lessons I have learned, all the amazing fellow soldiers, leaders, and friends I have made…. It has made my military experience amazing. After 3 years in the United States Army, I am proud to say I served my country.” I’m so proud of my sister and what she has accomplished in her life. I look up to her every day and I’m so thankful for her, and all her little rants. She made my Beautiful, nieces and nephew/ my little munchkins after a little time serving her years. Haveing my sister mylene is like haves best friends you can’t get rid of, what ever you do they are still by your side!. Love you forever and thank you for your dedication and service.
