Why do we use the present perfect verb tense?

The present perfect is used to show that an action has happened once or many times before now. The present perfect is most used to talk about experiences or changes that have happened.

Why do we use the past simple verb tense (past tense)?

The simple past is a verb tense that is used to talk about things that happened or existed before now.
