         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Name: </strong>Geothermal energy<br><strong>Type of Energy resource:</strong> Renewable resource<br><br><strong>Description:</strong><br><br>Renewable resource where it's a Form of energy conversion wherein heat is harvested within Earth and used directly; geothermal heat pumps, and electric power generation.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Surface phenomena such as lava flows, geysers, fumaroles, hot springs, and mud pots are caused by heat from the Earth's core. <strong>The heat is created mostly by the radioactive decay of potassium, thorium, and uranium in the Earth's crust and mantle, as well as friction caused along continental plate borders.</strong> <br><br>Geothermal heat energy may be collected and used for human purposes, and it can be found everywhere on the Earth's surface.<br><br>The most popular method of extracting energy from geothermal sources is to use naturally existing "hydrothermal convection" systems, in which <strong>colder water penetrates into the Earth's crust, heats up, and then rises to the surface. </strong>Once the heated water reaches the surface, it is quite simple to <strong>trap the steam and use it to power electric generators. </strong>Geothermal power facilities dig their own holes into the rock to catch the steam more effectively.</div><div><br><br><strong>Strengths: </strong><br>- the carbon footprint of a geothermal power plant is low. <br>- renewable energy<br>- Sustainable because the resource is always available to be tapped into<br>- No Fuel Required<br><br><strong>Weakness:</strong><br>- Location Restricted because Geothermal plants need to be built in places where the energy is accessible<br>- Geothermal energy also runs the risk of triggering earthquakes<br>-&nbsp; High Costs to setup<br><br><strong>Sources of information:</strong><br>https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/geothermal-energy<br>https://www.greenmatch.co.uk/blog/2014/04/advantages-and-disadvantages-of-geothermal-energy<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Wind Energy</strong><br><strong>How:</strong> Use wind to provide mechanical power through wind turbines to turn electrical generators.<br><strong>Pro:</strong> Renewable &amp; sustainable, does not pollute air or produce acid rain ect.<br><strong>Con: </strong>large carbon footprint which offsets any clean power. Threatens wildlife, wind unpredictable and is a limited resource.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

As fossil fuels are non-renewable, their supply is limited and will eventually run out.<br><br><br><strong>Strengths</strong>: cheap, easier to store and transport, reliable in infrastructure.<br><br><strong>Weakness</strong>: contributes to greenhouse gases and releases carbon dioxide, climate change, air pollution releases sulfur dioxide which leads to acid deposition, affects human health<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Name</strong>: Biofuels<br><br></div><div><strong>Type of Energy resource:</strong> It is renewable, and vegetation can be grown back at a relatively rapid rate.</div><div>Description: Biofuels are a renewable source of energy, usually coming in the form of corn. It can either be turned into liquid fuel for combustion, or it can be burnt to create energy.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div><strong>Strengths:</strong> Carbon neutral, emits CO2 when burnt, but takes it back when grown again, easy to source, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, economic security, provides jobs, farmers usually burn their crops anyway, selling biofuels can add a source of income,<br><br></div><div><strong>Weakness: </strong>This can lead to soil degradation, high demand causes monoculture, and high demand pushes the use of fertilisers which can then impact the environment, such as rivers, through eutrophication, high water use, deforestation, more land use, more carbon being released than taken in when grown.<br><br></div><div>Sources of information: my brain, and googoo.</div><div><br><br></div><div><br><br>Image/Video</div>]]></description>
