Blended learning may be utilized in the band classroom via group stations (e.g. teacher led group, student leader led group, and a self-paced group for personal practice) to strengthen marching and playing fundamentals. Ultimately, incorporated technology in the classroom results in enhanced musicality and tone quality that will lead to eventual betterment of the ensemble sound as a whole.

Gabrielle Guidry- Band

Watching video reminded me of several things that we currently already use as instructional strategies for our band classes here at Carlisle.

We will utilize stations during certain times of high school band rehearsals to teach and reinforce fundamentals during outdoor marching rehearsals. Students will be paired into groups and rotate between stations that have a director there with goals and objectives to meet during that time.

While we often use teacher lead instruction for a majority of the time, we do also have student leaders that help give peer to peer instruction that allows the students to see someone close to their age demonstrate and review the fundamentals that are being presented by the teachers.

Technology is used at times during band classes, more so in our 6th grade beginner courses and 7th grade. Beginners classes utilize the two Promethean Boards for exercises on note naming and rhythm patters, musictheory.net, and YouTube to model and demonstrate skills to students. We also utilize the Tonal Energy App and other apps on our iPhones to mirror on the Promethean Board to help with intonation and pitch tendencies across the ensemble in our older groups.

Google Classroom is also utilized to share videos from Friday night football games and show the students what worked well and what needs to improved on for the next week.

Chris Clifton

In the computer applications classroom, technology offers access to many different opportunities for students to advance their learning in ways that meet their strengths. Almost all of the work in these classes are computer based. Through videos, projects, powerpoints, financial games, etc, I attempt to give students alternative ways to express themselves and the learning. I will incorporate more of these opportunities into the classroom this year.

Joe B. Jones

Blended Learning can be used in the AG Class by using the group stations. The teacher led group by demo. Ex. Arc welding, Gas welding and MIG welding, then the student using self practice to master the skill. Also student led groups can help the students who pick up the skill better by another student demo. instead of the teacher. I think these part will really help the students master the skill.
Jory Gresham

Blended learning still allows students to have that traditional style of teaching, but also it allows students to collaborate with each other on a digital level. Because students are allowed to interact with technology, most students are well adapted to the integration level of technology and how they use it in their everyday lives. Gamification is one that is popular in the classroom. Students tend to put their best efforts into a lesson when it becomes competitive with their classmates. This motivates students to learn in a more fashionable manner, with the sense of knowing a competition will take place afterward.
- Mrs. Carter

Blending learning strategies in the classroom is great way to engage all students and introduce new learning tools for them as well. In the gym setting we don’t use technology as much as I would like but we do incorporate stations where students can self evaluate the skill, have their peers evaluate, and one on one support from each of the coaches. TEKS standards are still being taught and met, independent learning is being incorporated and peer evaluating is very beneficial for kids when learning a skill. Although the coaches teach sometimes having a peer teach and evaluate is more beneficial than being evaluated by a coach.

Kelli Bishop
Elementary PE

Having a student in general education with Autism definitely would create some challenges within your classroom. Finding the triggers to stop the outburst of behaviors would be top priority; however, finding those triggers when you have multiple student is not always as easy as it sounds. Sometimes our students try to tell us the problem, but because of communication issues we, the teachers, don't always understand the students are trying to rely to us.
In the video some wise words were said that brings it home, " Not all behaviors have triggers and not all outburst are behavioral." Even student with Autism can have bad days for absolutel no reason at all.
