A Simple Childhood

As many people can probably relate, as a child, I valued the little and simple things. My childhood brain could only wrap itself around what I loved growing up. Of course I loved my family very much, but the one thing I valued and cherished the most at the time was playing soccer! It's one of those sports that almost every parent puts their kid in to stay active as a child, but it stuck with me. I started playing at 6 years old, and realized how much I valued the sport. My value of soccer did end with high school, but I have also found that (even though I valued it back then), I value it even more looking back on it. It made me realize how much hard work and effort I put into the sport, the friendships I made on different teams, and the overall love I had for the sport. It is something I will always cherish, because I feel like those same values transitioned to regular day-to-day life.

The Breakfast Club

I would say my values started to shift a little bit starting in high school. This is when friendships and relationships got a bit deeper than surface level, and I slowly started to realize how important these relationships were to me. In high school, I had a small group of friends that have actually became life long best friends. We were all very different from each other back then, and all of us met through other people or random scenarios. That is why I am calling this post "The Breakfast Club", because my friends and I, although different, realized we all liked spending time and getting to know one another. When I realized how lucky I was to be surrounded by such great people in a kind of weird stage of life, I knew it was something I would value forever. We are all still best friends to this exact day, and I would say that we will continue be for a long, long time.

The Little Things

As I've grown a little throughout college, I started to realize how important I valued myself. When I think of valuing myself, I think of surrounding myself with people or things that genuinely make me happy. Currently, I have a list of what makes me happy, and I've realized this list composes of the simple and little things you don't realize are important until a little bit later. The most important thing that makes me happy is spending quality time with genuine people and people that I love. Other things that make me happy include sunsets, drinking coffee on my patio in the morning, and spending quality time with myself. Surrounding myself with anything that makes me happy makes me feel like I am putting myself and my values first.
