MY VIEW ON UBIQUITOUS COMPUTING:

When I first got assigned this term I was not entirely sure what it was. As I did further research I began to understand the term. I think this shows just how good ubiquitous computing is. Their aim is to have technology everywhere in a non-disruptive manner. And the fact that I did not know what it was shows just how effective it is. I do not feel “attacked” by technology, or overwhelmed by the amount of machines surrounding my every day life. I think that at this point in time ubiquitous computing is facilitating daily processes for the individual, but how much technology is too much? Is it ethical to live in a world where everything is dominated by computers?

I think that over the years ubiquitous computing could potentially become disruptive. I think that there is a limit to how much technology should take a hold of our lives. Although it facilitates our daily life, I do not believe that it should do everything for us, for example the lights go on in the room when you walk in, or the temperature of the room adjusts to you when you walk in. Of course this would be very convenient but it could make us lazy and reliable on this type of technology. I do not feel like one should rely too much on technology at all times because technology can be unpredictable.

Furthermore I believe that using technology on a daily basis is respectable, and necessary in today’s world, but becoming too dependent and having technology take over your life and your job could be a dangerous thing.
