         <description><![CDATA[<div>Puritan society is a family based society. they brought women and children over to New England with them. They have schools and different view points of how to live. <br>Only independent congregational society should attend.Sermons are what they listened to. <br>Husband's authority was at the top of the list and women were under him. <br>Family was the the foundation of community. Typical New England women typically married at 22.<br>Puritans feared individualism.<br>They trained and educated ministry. To be a full member of the Puritan church you must demonstrate that they have experienced divine grace to be considered a visible saint.<br><strong>Pre Destination</strong>: That your life has been pre determined. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1620 Pilgrims land at Massachusetts Bay but were suppose to land in Virginia. They call it New England because they wanted to recreate it. They wanted to practice some of their own beliefs and cultures, but they still loved some of the ways of the old England.<br>The Puritans came with John Winthrop in 1630. They landed in Plymouth. <br><strong>New England Confederation</strong>: 1643 Plymouth, New Haven, Connecticut.<br>- <strong>Indian Wars</strong>: Pequot War (1636) would be the bloodiest war ever fought on New England soil.<br><strong>Domination of New England</strong>: Mercantilism: colonies existed for the benefit of the mother country, wealth,&nbsp; prosperity, and self-sufficiency.<br><strong>1685</strong>: Lords of Trade created Dominion of New England Goal to unite all colonies from Nova Scotia to the Delaware River. <br><strong>Anglophile</strong>: Someone who is obsessed with English culture and ways. <br><strong>Sir Edmund Andros</strong>: lead the DNE to oversee all of New England.<br>- town meetings prohibited<br>-heavy restrictions on courts, press, and schools<br>-taxed people without consent&nbsp;<br>-enforced unpopular Navigation Laws and suppressed smuggling(became honorable)<br>"Glorious Revolution": dethroned James II and replaced by his daughter Mary.&nbsp;<br>Created a constitutional monarchy </div>]]></description>

         <title>Contribution to Democracy</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. Participation in government via Town Hall meetings. They are extremely important today in America. It's a place where local people can participate in government where they can vent and let their frustrations be known.&nbsp;<br>2. Value of Education: the northeast are extremely more literate than the south. They needed them to learn how to read and write so they could read the bible and study it. Schools were made for religious purposes.&nbsp;<br>3. Pursuit of Perfection: They sought out to make a perfect society according to God's laws. They were against slavery and didn't stand for it. They laid the foundation for later events : abolishing slavery, women's rights, education, prohibition, prison reform, etc. They had a protestant work ethic to those who were faithful and worked hard and succeeded were seen favorably by God. </div>]]></description>
