I think that his plan for Juliet was a good plan. He told her what to do in act 4 scene 1. He didn’t want her to marry someone she didn’t want to so he told her to end it while she was still happy with Romeo. That is why she poisoned herself with the drink. Friar said, “ going to heaven was her most sought promotion.” This tells us that Juliet will be happy up there and she can still be with Romeo. This wasn’t meant to trick Romeo into thinking Juliet had actually died.

I don’t believe Friar Lawrence’s plan was a good one because of the risks involved. I know that Juliet said she would rather die than marry Paris but I believe that his plan was too risky for Juliet’s life. Drinking poison can be very bad and even Juliet was unsteady on drinking it. “What if this mixture does not work at all” I believe there could have been a better way for Romeo and Juliet to be together in secret. Something like Juliet running away to Mantua with Romeo.

I think that friar Lawrence had the right idea in trying to make sure Romeo and Juliet stay together but I feel his plan was a bit to extreme. His plan to end Juliets life risks not only her life but the people around her. I’m assuming if the capulets found Juliet dead assuming the Montague's we’re to blame seems reasonable all because they are already in a fight so the feud would inevitably continue even though we know the montauges have nothing to do with this and in fact its only Juliets love for Romeo and his love for her than makes them feel they cant live without each other. “Ay those attires are best but gentle nurse, i pray thee leave me to myself tonight. For i have need of many orisons. To move the heavens to smile upon my state. Which, well thou knowest is cross and full of sin” (IV. III. 1-5)

He had the right idea in keeping Romeo and Juliet together but his methods were harsh and I believe he could have achieved his goal in a more controlled way. “Heaven and yourself had part in this fair maid, now heaven hath all, and all the better is it for the maid: your part in her you could not keep from death, but heaven keeps his part in eternal life.

I think that Friar Lawrence’s plan was a good one. He wanted to get Juliet back with Romeo because he saw how upset she was about Romeo killing her cousin and getting banished. So he came up with that brilliant plan of his , to have Juliet fake her death and go be with Romeo. “She’s dead, deceased, she’s dead. Alack the day!” said the Nurse. This quote shows that the people really thought she was dead, so Friar Lawrence’s plan was actually good and it worked.

I think that Friar Lawrence’s plan was not the brightest idea. I could guess that in that time they probably wouldn’t have thought about something that would have been less harsh. He was in the right state of mind of helping out Juliet because she didn’t want to be with Paris, but Romeo. This plan does put Romeo at risk as well because there is a possibility that in the end he wouldn’t have been with Juliet in time when she wakes up and gets the wrong idea. “Will I die of suffocation before Romeo comes?” Friar Lawrence could have covered for Romeo and Juliet with an excuse of something like they had moved out of Verona and went to another country. When in reality, they could be on their own somewhere else starting a new life.

I believe that Friar Lawrence’s plan was intense/ extreme. However, Juliet was determined to not marry Paris. Juliet said she would do anything to not marry him. Friar Lawrence was looking out for Juliet and thought of a plan to get her out of the wedding, but his plan could have easily back fired and Juliet could’ve ended up dead. In Act 4 Scene 3, Juliet was even cornered for herself “What if it be a poison which Friar subtly hath ministered to have me dead.” Juliet was worried for her own safety but she took the potion anyway. They could’ve made up a less extreme plan and said that Juliet went missing or Juliet went away and will not be returning to Verona.

Both these characters wanted love and Friar Lawrence didn’t want Juliet to fake her love so he improvised in a extreme way, To be honest that’s what Romeo and Juliet’s love was crazy having to dodge families, killings, it was all unexpected like this event. I believed they could have improvised but I feel her taking this potion really showed how deeply her love was from Romeo. Juliet was basically willing to do anything for Romeo, She was willing to deal with the risk of having a new life.

He had the right intentions of helping Juliet out of the marriage with Paris and to get Romeo and Juliet together, and his potion did work. Sure it may have been a bit much, and there were quite a bit of risks involved, but Juliet herself did state that she would rather die than marry Paris. So I think that it was worth the risk to get her out of the marriage. Everyone believed that she was dead too, so Friar Lawrence’s potion and plan was a success. This is backed up on pg 161 line 26 by Capulet saying “Her blood is settled, and her joints are stiff: Life and these lips have long been separated; Death lies upon her like an untimely frost”. This proves that they thought that she had really died.

Benjamin Parrott

I think that Friar Lawrence’s plan was an amazing one for many reasons. One, it was just about the only way things would have been able to work out, but the timing was just a little off. If it had gone exactly how he planned it to, it would have been perfect and Romeo and Juliet would have been able to live with each other and there would not be the same struggle of trying to see each other and not being able to. Two, the fact that he had a way to make it seem as if she was dead so nobody could find out besides Romeo was perfect. Juliet thought she would be waking up and be able to run away with him: “Romeo, Romeo, Romeo, here’s drink. I drink to thee” (4.3.) But again, the timing was just a little off, and it cost both their lives.
