It is very interesting to me how fentanyl has taken the world by surprise. People are overdosing without even knowing they had taken the drug itself. It is very scary now a days. I decided to write about fentanyl specifically because I had a close family member pass away from fentanyl. It is surreal to me how strong and lethal this drug is in small amounts. It is very interesting to see the medical use of fentanyl as when you only get to see the negative affect the drug has had on the world. Fentanyl only adds on to the opioid pandemic, which makes up for the 64 percent of overdoses in the United States. It makes me wonder and reconsider different approaches we can take to stop such a cancer in our society. But it also makes me question if this is what our government wants. This could be used to keep the world in balance and against each other just like the rest of the government’s scandals. Have you ever asked yourself why cigarettes and vapes are still being sold if they do not want you doing it. Opioids might just be another form of population control. Or I might just be throwing out a theory like the rest of the world. I just feel the government can do a lot more to prevent overdoses from fentanyl. I want to look further into the opioid pandemic, specifically the areas and kind of people who are meeting opioids or fentanyl.

Hundreds to thousands of people are dying from overdoses without knowledge of taking any sort of drug. How is this possible? Fentanyl has become a big problem in our society that is worrying citizens around the United States. You do not have to consume or intake fentanyl to perhaps overdose on it but instead you just must touch it or come in contact with the drug. The problem on the streets as of right now is the lacing of other drugs with fentanyl. Fentanyl traces are being put into drugs such as cocaine and marijuana, which is killing kids who were looking to get high on marijuana. Kavita explains “Buying drugs on the street is a game of Russian roulette. From Xanax to cocaine, drugs or counterfeit pills purchased in nonmedical settings may contain life-threatening amounts of fentanyl.” This is scaring parents around the world as there have been many overdoses in college due to laced fentanyl. Since this drug has gotten more popular on the streets, the number of overdoses has exploded. Kavita’s excerpts “Overdose deaths roughly quadrupled, going from 8,050 in 1999 to 33,091 in 2015. From May 2020 to April 2021, more than 100,000 Americans died from a drug overdose, with over 64% of these deaths due to synthetic opioids like fentanyl and its analogs.” Kavita’s even mentions that often patients who reported heroin overdoses had fentanyl present in their system. The potency of fentanyl makes it a perfect drug for the streets as it does not take much to get the job done. It only takes a couple of grains of fentanyl to kill a victim. It is sickening that parents must worry about their kids meeting a lethal drug by touching an object. The opioid pandemic is only getting worse every year and needs to be put to a stop.
