I chose this article because of its research based content. I knew that having researched and tested ideas would help me understand the content of the article better than more theory based practices .

The article shows the importance of giving your students high expectations, using evidence-based interventions, and a successful approach to comprehending literacy for students with intellectual disabilities.

1. Phonetics-based instruction.

   Teaching emphasized letter-sound relationships helps students with intellectual disabilities to develop what we call decoding skills. Instruction includes, breaking down large tasks into smaller steps, modeling skills, and reinforcing learning through guided practices.

2. Use of Assistive Technology.

   Tools such as audiobooks, text-to-speech, and adaptive reading programs can help students build comprehensive literacy skills. Modern technology is also able to provide academic support tailored to a students unique needs.
