In this chapter there are two important parts that impact the story. The first event is when Stefan is arguing with Adam, Erik's father. You can see the difference of opinion between the two, regarding the invasion. It seems as though Erik has similar views to his father. They think this, what appears to them as a conflict of interest, is something that will pass and is not a huge deal. They think all of the horrific torture methods, are just rumours being spread by civilians. Although Stefan and his family, find this to be a huge problem as it impacts their life, as well as the life of many helpless Jews.

But as a Jewish man, he couldn't morally feel like he could treat them. He didn't want to treat them, but without him doing his job, he wouldn't be providing a large amount of financial support to his family, especially in a time like this. he doesn't know what to do, until Lisa's idea. She told her father to treat the soldiers, as hes obligated to do, but don't treat them to the best of his abilities. Surprisingly, Lisa'a father took her suggestion.

It shows the struggles of all the Jewish people and how they had to live their lives for a long period of time. Families worrying they are loved ones won't come home after a shift at work, or walking home from school, etc. Lisa and her father helped hide the Jewish people in the hospital.

These chapters conclude this book. These two chapters really showcase how truly terrifying and devastating this period of time was. Lisa and her bother Stefan have to part with someone very close to them. Jesper was someone really important to Lisa, as well as Jesper. He decided to stay in Denmark and help the other Jewish families flee the war. Stefan and Lisa left Denmark to go to Sweden to live a better and safer life. Although they were happy to be living a more secure life in Sweden, they had to suffer a terrible loss of their friend. This was so prevalent in the war. Although you might escape the war to live a better life, you leave so many people behind, and you never know if you'll see them again even after the war is over. Whilst reading, I could fully captivate Lisa's pain and suffering.

This book has come to an end. The ending of the book is somewhat hopeful, whilst also being respectful to all the lives and moments lost due to the war. This chapter includes happiness, suspense as well as a peaceful cliff hanger. When Lisa, her brother and the other Jews were in the boat, it started to fill up with water. This was an indication pf how many people were on that small boat. As they struggle to find a solution to this quickly growing issue, a huge boat comes and saves them. The first words Lisa and the people around her hear is ''Welcome t o Sweden''. This was a reassuring and thoughtful thing to hear. They're now safe, and our story has a peaceful conclusion.

This poem explains how war is something that no individual soldier can control. If it was in other circumstances, those soldiers might have been friends. But because they were on different sides in terms of their beliefs and/or governmental power, they fought. Violence was their only option. So with that devastating outcome, war will eliminates potential friendships, relationships, and bonds that could have been formed if it wasn't for the war. In a different world, many of the opposing soldiers could form incredible bonds. But due to war, they are left with only one choice. And that choice is to fight, no matter how hard it may hurt.

This is where Lisa takes part in WW2. She is helping her brother find more information about the war. She does this by telling her mother she is picking up the laundry. She is in fact picking up the laundry, as well as picking up more secrets about the war and what is REALLY happening. When riding a cab on the way home, she happens to be sitting dangerously close to German soldiers. If Lisa's is caught with the information in that bag, she will be killed immediately. We found out earlier in this chapter that Lisa doesn't do well under pressure. When she feels scared or intimidated, she will throw up. And that's exactly what she did in front of the German soldiers. Except she threw up directly into their laps. But thankfully people step in and help Lisa. About 20 people stand between Lisa and the soldiers, as one close to Lisa tells her to ''Go, go'' out the door. This is when Lisa came face to face with a German soldier, but not willingly.

He works at a hospital and he in under oath to treat every person who walks into the hospital (including the German soldiers). My father is conflicted. He doesn’t want to treat the Nazi patients due to what they’re doing to the jewish people. But he doesn't have much of a choice to not treat them. My father took an oath to save and help whoever walks into the hospital, and that includes the Nazi soldiers. My parents were arguing about what my father should do. I overheard them and came up with an idea. I told my father to treat the Nazis, but not to the best of his abilities. He wouldn't be disobeying his oath, but he also wouldn't be abandoning his morals. He could give them treatment, but not the treatment that would completely heal them. My father surprisingly took my idea and is now using it himself and with his colleagues. I’m happy that now my father has been able to let go of most of his stress, but I now worry that the Nazi soldiers might find out about what my father is doing. What would they do? I just came up with a small idea, just on the spot. And now it might endanger my family, and everyone at the hospital. Dear Abby, what should I do?

Discomforted in Denmark

Give four reasons why Lisa’s fourteenth birthday is so memorable? (4)

Lisa went to a dance hall. This dance hall was for adults, more specifically people 15 or older. But the hall decided to make an exception for Lisa since it6 was her 14th birthday. She is wearing a beautiful and elegant new white dress with white gloves, and a brown coat. But before Lisa leaves, she sees her father weeping and filled with sorrow. This completely affects her mood, and she is now concerned for the rest of her birthday. Although Jesper helps to calm and comfort Lisa in this confusing time filled with gut wrenching emotions.

2. When Lisa tells Stefan and Erik about the hospital massacre, how does Erik react? Why does his reaction make Stefan so mad? (3)

Erik isn't even phased by the invasion and masacre. But that isn't Erik’s fault, it's the fault of Erik’s influential parents. I will compare his parents to the people who didn't believe in Covid-19. Both people thought all that was happening were just publicity stunts to get attention from the media. But I’m sure they always knew what was really happening, they were just completely in denial.

3. What “surprise” is waiting at home for Lisa and Stefan when they get back from Lisa’s birthday celebration? (1)

Lisa and Stefan come home to a baby crying in their house. They later find out this is their new baby sister. Her parents were shot and killed hwne the Nazis envaded the hospital theat Lisa’s father worked at. Sarah, was now joining their lives.

4. What happens to Susanne in chapter seven? (2)

Susanne’s parents die due to a giant explosion. Susnane luckily survived, but was never the same after the death of her parents. She became dark and cold, ahd extremely close minded.

5. In chapter eight, what was Susanne’s motivation for helping with the resistance bombing? (1)

After losing her parents, Susanne had nothing to lose. She put all of her anger, sadness, and fear into getting her bloody revenge. She was so strong and powerful, especially for being so young.

6. After they set the factory bomb, Lisa says the following:

“A chill runs down my spine. My God, I think, these Germans are dragging us all down to their level. How will we keep ourselves better than them?” (p. 46)

In your own words tell what does Lisa mean by this and what is she concerned about? (4)

Lisa’s feels as if by creating bombs, and murdering the German soldiers, she’s becoming as scary and inhumane as the Nazis. They’re relentlessly killing other people just on their beliefs and political standpoints. Lisa is scared that her and her loved ones are becoming exact replicas of the soldiers that are torturing the Jewish people. Lisa feels filled with fright.

This chapter really showed how the war got to people psychologically. Going all the way from Erik realizing what is really happening in this period of time, to Susanne shooting a German Soldier. The war didn't just ruin the government, it ruined people's minds. People didn't know how sain they should be.

This was the quote I chose:

“ ‘I’m afraid there will be no service tonight at the synagogue,’ Father continues. ‘Rabbi Melchior told everyone at the early service that he’ll be closing the synagogue. He’s going on holiday.’

I almost laugh. The rabbi going on holiday on Rosh Hashanah?

Then it hits me.” (p.62)

Why would a Rabbi take a vacation on a truly important religious holiday? Lisa wondered that for a while. Then it hit her. This isn't some vacation to relax and sip piña coladas by the beach, this was the vacation to save his life, and many others. The Rabbi was politely and carefully trying to inform the other Jewish people about the invasions Germany had planned on Denmark and the remaining Jews. Once Lisa picked up on this clue, she knew it was time to go. She knew it was time for everyone to go.
