Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disability 1988

This act was reauthorized three times in 1994, 1998, and 2004. In 1998 it was renamed to Assistive Technology Act, or AT Act. The purpose of this act was to provide individuals with devices needed to be successful in their education. Each reauthorization included adjustments such as an increase of availability of AT devices and services, and improved access to devices and services.

Americans with Disability Act 1990

Although it was signed in 1990 ADA was presented to congress in 1986. It took at total of 4 years for persons with disabilities to receive the assistance needed to access the world. It was reauthorized in 2008. The purpose of the law was to ultimately eliminate discrimination against persons with a disability.

This is a short clip from an amazing movie on Netflix called Crip Camp. It is an enjoyable documentary that shows the struggles, trials and tribulations these wonderful people went through that paved the path for equality today.

Bill of Rights for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children 1992

The Bill of Rights for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children outlines the rights given to children who are deaf or hard of hearing. A few of these rights are as follows but not limited to; right to be educated, graduate high school, attend higher education, and acquire a career. The Bill of Rights gives deaf children the opportunity to be in inclusive classrooms and receive the necessary materials to succeed.

Anti-bullying Laws 2017

This particular law in Texas prohibits any student from bullying any other student regardless of mental abilities. This ultimately protects all students but most importantly students with disabilities or mental health problems. Attached is an official historical document outlining the anti bullying act.

Cogswell-Macy Act 2023

The overall purpose of this act is to improve the education services to all visually impaired and children who are deaf or hard of hearing. This act includes provisions such as early intervention services, research, development for persons working with disabled students, and a center in the department of education to support visual impairments known as the Anne Sullivan Macy Center.
