         <description><![CDATA[<div>Set in 1984, the novel takes place in the country of Oceania where Big Brother oppressively governs the people. Winston Smith begins writing in a forbidden journal his personal thoughts and feelings against the government. He meets a girl, Julia. They fall in love and meet in a secret place they believe is hidden from the prying eyes of Big Brother. They plan to meet with a member of secret brotherhood, but the man is actually a member of the Thought Police, a group that searches for rebels. Winston is tortured by the Thought Police and turns in Julia. The two then return to their normal lives in the Party and ignore each other.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
