Winston Smith begins writing in a forbidden journal his personal thoughts and feelings against the government. He meets a girl, Julia. They fall in love and meet in a secret place they believe is hidden from the prying eyes of Big Brother. They plan to meet with a member of secret brotherhood, but the man is actually a member of the Thought Police, a group that searches for rebels. Winston is tortured by the Thought Police and turns in Julia. Citizens expected to accept reality without question; forced illusion of utopia
