<title>Disney: Belle is the main character. She is beautiful, smart, and very kind. Her town outcasts her because they find her love of books to be odd. She finds that there is more out there in the world for her besides her small-minded town. However, she captures the attention of an egoistic and narcissistic man who wishes to marry her. His name is Gaston. Belle refuses Gaston&#39;s proposal, and continues to remain an independent woman. An issue arises when her father goes on a journey and comes across a castle where a beast imprisons him. When he didn&#39;t return to Belle when he said he would, she became very worried. Belle ventures out to find her father. When she arrived at the castle, the Beast said that in order for her father to be released Belle would have to take his place as prisoner forever. Belle takes his place and resents the Beast. However, over time she starts to develop feelings towards him as he shows a nicer side to her. Gaston finds out about Belle falling in love with a beast over him and becomes enraged. He then took citizens of the town to go and kill the Beast. War occurred that night between the town and the Beast&#39;s servants who happened to be objects. Gaston shot the Beast but also fell to his death from the top of the castle. The Beast began to die. Belle began to sob and tell the Beast how she loved him. Her love reversed a curse that had been laid upon the Beast and his servants, and then the Beast lived and turned into a beautiful prince. His servants also turned back into humans. Belle, the Prince, the prince&#39;s servants, and Belle&#39;s father all live happily ever after together in the Prince&#39;s castle. </title>

<title>Histoires ou contes du temps passé: Practically the same story with the exception that Belle had siblings in this story. Belle&#39;s sisters hated her and tried to get Belle killed in the end of the story by making her stay with them longer than what Belle had promised she&#39;d do when the Beast granted her a week outside the castle. The sisters thought the Beast would be enraged and would come and eat Belle. However, this did not happen and Belle and the prince (who once was the Beast) got married. The sisters turned into statues that were placed in front of the Prince&#39;s castle because of how bad they treated Belle. </title>

<title>Disney: The Evil Queen wanted to be the fairest of all the land. However, her step daughter Snow White was. The Queen had a plan to use an assassin to kill Snow White, but as he was about to commit the murder, he backed out because of his guilt. Snow White feared for her safety, so she ran into the woods and stumbled upon a home. The home belonged to seven dwarfs who had housed and befriended Snow White. When the Evil Queen found out about the assassin&#39;s failure to kill Snow White, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She disguised herself as a hag and brought Snow White a poisonous apple. Snow White ate the apple and fell into a death like sleep where she can only be awoken by love&#39;s true kiss. The Queen then declares that she is the most beautiful woman in all of the land. When the dwarfs return home from mining, they discover the Queen and chase her to the top of a cliff. Lightning struck the cliff and the Queen fell to her death. When the dwarfs returned, they were saddened by Snow White&#39;s death and didn&#39;t know how to wake her. They didn&#39;t want to bury her, so they made a glass coffin for her. Along with the woodland creatures, the dwarfs watched over Snow White for a year until a prince, who had met and fallen in love with Snow White, heard about Snow White&#39;s death and came to visit her coffin. While there, the Prince kissed Snow White and woke her from her sleep. Together they moved into the Prince&#39;s castle and lived happily ever after.</title>

<title>Disney: An old, vain woman named Mother Gothel uses a magical flower hidden in the hills that allows her to reverse the effect of time on her appearance. One day, as she was going to use the flower, village soldiers came to take it back to the ill queen who was about to die. The queen was pregnant with a little girl named Rapunzel. When the queen drank from the flower, the magic from it went to Rapunzel and gave her magical powers. Mother Gothel kidnapped Rapunzel once she was born and took her to a tower hidden in the woods. In order for the magic to continue to work, Rapunzel could never cut her hair. That meant that by the age of 18, Rapunzel had hair that was about 70 feet long. Mother Gothel pretended to be Rapunzel&#39;s mother and made her never leave the tower. On Rapunzel&#39;s 18th birthday, she wished to leave the tower in order to see the floating lanterns from the village far away. Mother Gothel lied to Rapunzel saying that the world is dangerous and so are people. Rapunzel asked Mother Gothel to get her a gift she would have to travel far for. Then all of a sudden, when Mother Gothel was away, the village&#39;s most wanted bandit, Flynn Rider climbed into Rapunzel&#39;s tower. He was on the run because he had stolen the crown of the lost princess of the village. Rapunzel knocked him uncautious then decided to hold him prisoner until he took her to see the lanterns. Rapunzel made the deal with him and promised that she would give him the crown back at the end of the journey. Over the course of the adventure, Flynn and Rapunzel fell in love, but Mother Gothel and two other bandits kept interfering. The story ends with Rapunzel returning to her tower because Mother Gothel made her believe that Flynn was on the adventure with her just because he wanted the crown that he had stolen. In fact, when Rapunzel thought Flynn left her, he actually was taken and brought to jail. In the end, a horse who had been helping Rapunzel and Flynn along their journey rescued Flynn from execution and brought him to save Rapunzel from Mother Gothel. Back at the tower, Rapunzel makes the realization that she was the missing princess from the village. She came to this conclusion after she realizes all the murals and the symbol from the village was incorporated in her paintings. She began to put every missing piece of the story together and confronted Mother Gothel. When Flynn made it back to the tower, he called for Rapunzel to throw down her hair for him to climb up the tower. The hair was thrown out for him, so he believed it was safe. However, when he reached the top, he found Rapunzel tied up with Mother Gothel. Mother Gothel stabbed Flynn to stop him from taking Rapunzel away from her. As he was dying Rapunzel was allowed to say her goodbyes. Flynn took the opportunity to use a knife and cut Rapunzel&#39;s hair so she wouldn&#39;t have to suffer with Mother Gothel when he died. In shock by her turning back into an old lady, Mother Gothel fell out the window. After, Flynn died but the love Rapunzel had for him and the last bit of magic she had left through her tears and fell on o Flynn causing him to be saved by the healing of the magic. In the end, Rapunzel and Flynn went back to live with her real parents, the king and queen. Flynn proposed to Rapunzel and they lived happily ever after. </title>

<title>The Brother&#39;s Grimm: This version of the story is similar to the Disney version in that, in both, a woman deprives a couple of their daughter, raises her as her own, keeps her in a secluded tower in the woods, and a man eventually tries to save Rapunzel. However, there are also many differences. For instance, the beginning of the Brother&#39;s Grimm story says that the woman who takes Rapunzel was a witch who had made a deal with the father. He had stolen from her garden and they agreed that once Rapunzel was born, she would get to keep her. Another key difference is that a prince came by, fell in love with Rapunzel, and tried to help her escape so they could get married. In this version of the story, the Witch did not care about Rapunzel&#39;s hair and actually cut it off when she found out about Rapunzel&#39;s plan to escape. She then sent Rapunzel into the woods to fend for herself. One day the Prince went back to the tower where the Witch was and she told him that she sent Rapunzel away. The Prince was devastated and threw himself out of the tower where he landed in a thorn bush that blinded him. He then wandered around into the woods. Then he heard Rapunzel singing in the woods and they reunited. Rapunzel&#39;s tears caused the Prince to gain his sight back, and they lived happily ever after.</title>

<title>Disney: Cinderella&#39;s father had died which left her with a brutal life of abuse and mistreatment from her step-mother and two step-sisters. They talked down to her, treated her as a slave, and tried to make all parts of her life very unhappy. One day it was announced that the Prince was looking for a bride and that there would be a ball to determine who it would be. On the night of the ball, Cinderella&#39;s step-mother wouldn&#39;t let her go. However, a magical fairy step-mother magically gave everything Cinderella would need for the night under one condition; she had to return home by midnight or everything she had would turn back to what they used to be. At the ball she met the Prince and danced the night away with him. When the clock struck midnight, Cinderella ran out of the castle and lost one of her glass slippers on her way out. The Prince kept the slipper in hopes that Cinderella would return. When she didn&#39;t, he traveled all across the kingdom to find her and had all the women try on the shoe to see if they were the one he danced with that night. When the Prince got to Cinderella&#39;s step-family&#39;s house, her step-sisters didn&#39;t fit in the shoe. But they didn&#39;t want the Prince to know that it was Cinderella&#39;s, so one of the step-sisters dropped the shoe on purpose and it shattered. However, Cinderella still had the other shoe and showed the Prince that she was the girl. The Prince then asked Cinderella to be his wife, and she never had to stay with her evil step-family again. </title>

<title>The Brother&#39;s Grimm: Some notable differences between the two versions are that Cinderella&#39;s father didn&#39;t die and the step-sisters cut off their toes in order to fit into the glass slipper. Instead of a fairy god-mother, there was a magical tree, and during Cinderella&#39;s wedding, doves swoop by and punish the step-sisters by pecking at their eyes and blinding them. However the rest of the story matches with the Disney version; Cinderella was treated horribly, but in the end got to wed the Prince.</title>

<title>Disney: Ariel, a mermaid, wishes to no longer be a mermaid and instead walk the Earth as a human. One day Ariel witnessed a boat sink, and she was able to save a prince who was on board and unconscious. Upon bringing him to land, Ariel fell deeply in love with him. She decided that she wanted to be with him, so she went to Ursula the Sea Witch to give her legs. Ursula agreed to do it, but the catch was that Ariel would have to make the prince fall in love with her before the night of his wedding (in a couple days) without her voice. If she couldn&#39;t do that, then her soul would live with Ursula forever. Ariel made the deal and went to land to meet Prince Eric. She stayed in the castle with him because he thought she had washed up on shore and needed a place to stay. Prince Eric started to fall in love with Ariel, but he couldn&#39;t get over the woman who had saved his life. Ariel couldn&#39;t tell him that she was the girl, so Ursula disguised herself as a beautiful women that had Ariel&#39;s beautiful singing voice and convinced Prince Eric that she was the girl. This was all a part of Ursula&#39;s plan to get Ariel&#39;s father, King Triton, the most powerful creature of the ocean, to give up his soul in place of Ariel&#39;s. When Prince Eric found Ursula he decided that he was going to marry her. This now put Ariel on the clock to help save herself and be with Eric before the wedding. Time ran out and King Triton gave his soul to Ursula who was now the queen of the Ocean. Ariel got her voice back and explained what happened to Prince Eric. Then he went and killed Ursula. After, Ariel married Prince Eric and spent the rest of her life as a human.</title>

<title>The Brother&#39;s Grimm: Some similar aspects of the two stories are that Ariel had the same intent on why she wanted to be on land and she had to suffer the same consequences. However, Ariel had to go through more pain because each step she took felt like knives stabbing her feet. The ending in this version is very different to that of Disney because Ariel doesn&#39;t wind up marrying the Prince because he believed someone else had saved him in the ocean. Ariel&#39;s sisters went to the sea witch and gave her their beautiful hair in order for Ariel to not have to have her soul taken away. In order to have this, Ariel would have to kill the Prince. She couldn&#39;t do it because she still loved him. This means that Ariel would now perish into sea foam and would not have an afterlife because mermaids cease to exist after death. However, the gods saw her act of selflessness to be rewarding of an afterlife. Also, they allowed her to continue the rest of her life as long as she continued to do good deeds for the next 300 years as a mermaid.</title>
