Emerson appeals to logic when he discusses how "we but half express ourselves and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represents." This shows the audience that we all live lives with no variety.
Emerson shows an ethical appeal when he discusses specific examples of people who are misunderstood like "Copernicus and Galileo". these are credible sources of misunderstood men from history.
Emerson uses an appeal to pathos when he asserts that man should "trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string." this shows that he has strong feelings of trust in himself and would like his audience to have the same level of trust in themselves.
