Peru’s culture is a rich mix of Indigenous traditions, such as the Inca civilization, and Spanish influences from colonization. This blend can be seen in Peru’s festivals, food, music, architecture, and textiles. For example, traditional Peruvian weaving is a centuries-old craft passed down through families, with bright patterns that tell stories of the Andes and their people. Similarly, the Quechua language, spoken by millions in Peru, is a key connection to the country’s history before colonization. However, parts of Peru’s culture are disappearing. Globalization has brought modern lifestyles that often overshadow traditional ways of life. Many young people move to cities for better job opportunities and lose touch with their ancestral roots. Indigenous languages, like Quechua and Aymara, are being replaced by Spanish or English in schools and daily life. At the same time, mass tourism and climate change threaten important sites like Machu Picchu, leading to the loss of cultural and environmental treasures.

It is important to preserve Peru’s culture because it carries historical knowledge and creativity that benefit the world. For example traditional Peruvian farming techniques, such as terracing, offer environmentally friendly solutions to modern agricultural problems. Saving Indigenous languages like Quechua protects unique ways of thinking and storytelling. Cultural preservation also helps Peruvians feel proud of their heritage and strengthens community bonds between generations. Peru can also benefit from tourism and economic growth if they still preserve their culture. According to research, about 4 percent of Peru's GDP comes from tourism alone, and that is above the world average. Without helping to protect these traditions the future generations might lose meaningful ties to their heritage and the profound insights it provides about their identity and history.

In this project, I will research 30 items of Peruvian culture and create a website to share all of this information. The website will cover various aspects of Peruvian culture, including traditional weaving, Indigenous languages, heritage sites, and other important cultural elements. My goal is to present the diversity and richness of Peru's heritage through this online platform, allowing others to learn more about its history and traditions.
