The mass media is a broad communication network that distributes information to a wide audience, influencing culture and public opinion. In the context of mass media, power is the capacity to direct information flow, influence public opinion, and mold public discourse. In mass media, meaning describes how viewers construct, analyze, and comprehend messages and material, through the communication of information. Representation describes how the media creates and presents identities, images, and stories about individuals, communities and concepts. The idea demonstrates how media constructs symbolic meanings and how these representations impact power dynamics and societal attitudes.

People all across the world can receive mass communications through newspapers. The media uses newspapers to regulate who gets to talk, what stories are told, and how they are presented. Newspapers emphasize how important the media is as a source of information and how it shapes social dynamics and public opinion. Newspapers are able to use its power to promote one narrative over another, potentially influencing peoples ideas over another. A newspaper can show what they want to represent and show coverage on, focusing on a certain subject.

Around the world, books spread messages that inspire generations to believe in concepts and communicate with one another. Through the author's authority, publication control, and the sharing of information or stories, books serve as an outlet for the exercise of power. The way readers understand, interact with, and make sense of a book in various social, cultural, and historical contexts is just as important to its meaning as the text itself. Books are effective visual tools that depict people, groups, events, and concepts.

On February 14, 2005, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim founded YouTube as an online video-sharing platform. In Youtube, power filters the platform's content moderation and the creators, who influence public opinion and trends. The framing, labeling, and interpretation of videos by both producers and consumers generate meaning. The way that individuals, cultures, identities, and political ideologies are portrayed shapes social norms and has the potential to either challenge or maintain current power systems.

The first podcast was created in 2003 by Christopher Lydon and Dave Winer. Control over programming, the capacity to shape public opinion, and the manner in which radio is employed to uphold or subvert social, political, and cultural structures are all examples of radio power. In radio, the way that content is conveyed—through language, tone, music, and show structure—creates meaning. Social conventions, attitudes, and identities are significantly shaped by the voices and viewpoints that are broadcast over the radio.

Instagram was created in 2010 by Kevin Systrom, the main sources of power being control over content, access, and users. Users, platforms and its advertisers all have a significant impact on how people see, think, and act. Social media users' creation, sharing, and interpretation of content all contribute to the construction of meaning. The way people, groups, and concepts are portrayed on social media is known as representation, and it has the power to either support or contradict prevailing societal narratives.

Twitter was developed in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, and Biz Stone, and it was made available to the public on July 15, 2006. Power from Twitter comes from its users, content, access and algorithms. They all have a significant impact on how people see, think and decide to act. This contributes to a very important meaning of sharing and interpreting content that gets distributed to everyone. People, groups and concepts are portrayed on Twitter through representation to either support or contradict different narratives.
