To solve the equation you have to write the opposite to the other arrow. So as an example ; the arrow from 15 pointing to 6 has -9 next to it. That means 15 - 9 = 6. And then the arrow pointing from 6 to 15 is the opposite so it is + 9 to get to 15.

So if you look at the blank box that has an arrow pointing to 48 it has + 23 next to it. The other arrow has nothing. To figure out the question, figure out what goes on the other arrow first. To figure it out, write the opposite operation which would be subtraction. Meaning it would be - 23. Then all you have to do to find out what goes in the box is subtract 23 from 48 to get the answer.

To solve this example it is similar to the other example. Start with the first box. If the bottom arrow is +6 then the top arrow would be -6 because addition and subtraction are opposites. So now the next step is to subtract 6 from 3h + 6. If you take 6 away that makes it 3h. That answer would go in the next box. Now we have to figure out the next box. To do that is to look at the arrows. If the bottom one is x 3 then the top one will be opposite, meaning it will be /3. To get the final answer you just go 3h / 3 to get the final answer, which would be three.
