Workshop 2: We created characters for our short films.

These are the characters I created:

Bruce the Chef:  Bruce a man who loves meat, the type of man who is regular down the local boozer, whenever he speaks in his raspy voice all you can smell Stella, he is not a ladies man. He works at Spoons as a chef. 

Boris the Clown: A recluse and someone who is around kids way too much, even when off shift, spends his time making stuff out of balloons at the local playground; never accept a sweet treat of Boris. He sounds like Mickey Mouse.

Workshop 3:

We had to write a synopsis for our short Film:

Sypnosis:

A murder investigation is taking place after Dr. Victor Harding is found dead in his mansion. Four extremely different suspects are questioned with conflicting alibis, and shocking truths are unveiled. "Where is the truth beneath the lies?"

Workshop 4: We Created our characters both of my characters Boris and Bruce were put into our Short Film.

We also had Pearl, a seductive hyper-feminine woman having an affair with the murder victim. She is an alcoholic due to a tragic past and during the short film she will appear drunk.

We also have Clara: who is described as a nervous wreck, she is being investigated because she works in the mansion as a maid .

Workshop 6:

In this workshop, we presented our statement of intent for our film. This includes the following:

• Technical details (Length, Format) so for this, it would be around 5 minutes long

• Genre: Psychological Thriller

• Our purpose: We wanted to have a simple-shot film which was still effective to the audience, whilst also working as a team.

• Intended audience: Our audience is aimed at a more mature audience who love to watch true crime like we all do or love watching psychological thrillers which make you think at all times.

• The Genesis of our idea: The Genesis of our idea was that we all love binge watching true crime documentaires, and also love psychological thriller movies. One of the movies which inspired us was the movie trilogy split and Glass as glass had the location type which we wanted imitate and Split helped us come up with the split personality disorder idea

• Theme: Pyschological thriller, death, horror,murder, mental health issues

• Message: "not everything is as it seem s." And the impact mental health can have on people, this was more of a group idea but I personally preferred the first message it's more spooky but i appreciate the lightheartedness as well.

• Vision (visual style, aesthethetic choices) A dark and dimly lit investigation room where there is a huge visual aspect on the characters. The sound will be enhanced on each characters movement within the chair which evokes the naturalism behind it and also every gesture they do such as Boris doing his maniacal laughing.

In this workshop, we all assigned our roles. I was assigned sound design; we have Two directors, Lucie Cooper and Anya Russell, and a producer, Kimberly Cormican. Me as sound and camera and lighting, Angie. We then discussed all our roles and how we would organise our roles. For example, my duties are assessing a floor plan, meeting with my director for the marked-up script, and booking the necessary equipment. This will be done before shooting to test the sound equipment and design. I will be using the simple abstract approach in sound as there is only one location, but I will always make sure to establish an unsettling vision, whether that be done by hearing every movement in the investigation or through aftereffects. through Adobe Audition.

Workshop 8:

I mentioned actors who could be cast for the director and producer to discuss. I will cast them if necessary to help the directors and producerss organise the other logistics

Both scenes have minimal sound effects. Apart from dialogue and subtle sound effects to imitate some unearthliness between the detective and the suspect, especially with Boris, there will be some card scraping and chair squeaking. But throughout the short film, there will be minimalistic sound features, as we want most of the focus to be on the camera perception and not what is occurring throughout the setting. Patient X does have a very subtle sound effect where he puts his glasses on the table, this will be more encouraged with foley.

Filming Day 2: Today we filmed Pearl and Bruce. This took around 4 hours to film.

Pearl has a few sound designs added to her, such as her sipping the glass of wine and her swigging the glass drunkenly on the table, where you can hear the glass moving on the table. This was to symbolise her drunken and disordered personality. There are also shots without sound; for example, there is an extreme close up Pearl swaying about to show her uncontrolled behaviour but this does not use sound as this was also a choice by the director to be used as a close up for more enhancement on her behaviour.

Bruce has a few sound effects added, such as him banging the table this could not have been picked up on the camera audio and would have a boom pole used. Furthermore, He also has a lot of added sounds which will be added in in after effects.

Reshoots:

We reshot Bruce as there was a struggle with the focus on the camera and the audio was off This was when I realised some of the audio files were corrupted (I may have formatted some) with the others but I could recover it with a bit of reverb done, and some editing on audition. Bruce redone his shot it came out much better than his other and the bang on the table was easily more noticeable and made the whole sound effect enhancement more noticeable.

We also reshot some scenes of Boris as we were also having some focus issues and we also added another shot where it is an extreme close-up and a medium shot of him laughing manically. this was not filmed with sound, as we thought having it without sound would make it much more creepy, adding to that horror effect our directors wanted to initiate.

Editing session one: I used After Effects for my intro, and it turned out amazing; it gives off a scary thriller.

Editing Session Two: Merged all the clips together and had a bunch of sequences

Editing session Three: Went over the top with colour grading

Editing session Four: added smooth transitions

Editing session 5: Finalised editing fil

Editing session 6: Re-adjusted audio delayed and made transitions smoother

Scene 1:  

Minimal sound effects, apart from wine sip, and gulp. And dragging the wine glass scraping it across the table, dialogue 

Scene 2:  

Demonic Laughter, card shuffling and scattering across the table, chair squeaks, dialogue

Slamming the table in fury, and dialogue
