Woodrow Wilson gave a "Peace Without Victory" speech before a joint session of Congress and to the audience that America needed to remain neutral in the war. In his speech, Wilson explained his vision for a peaceful resolution to the conflict which involved free seas, an international agreement to avoid arms races, and to use the United States as a peace broker. This event connects to the theme because it was a major event that put the US in the spotlight during WWI. Wilson wanted the US to remain as peaceful as possible and didn't want to get roped into what the rest of the world was fighting over.

The National Defense Act aimed to strengthen the country's military preparedness for potential involvement in WWI. It included the expansion of the U.S. Army, officer training, creation of ROTC, expansion of the National Guard, and overall increased preparedness. This event connects to the theme because it created an overall new image for the US that showed it was ready to fight in the war if needed. They also posed as a new threat to any enemies of allies which benefited the US as a world power.

The bombing of Hiroshima was one of the most impactful events of WW2. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States decided to drop an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima which helped to conclude WW2. Despite this, Japan did not immediately surrender. But it wasn't until the US dropped a second atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki that they finally surrendered which concluded WW2. This connects to the theme because this put the United States as one of the most powerful world powers.

The Manhattan Project was a top-secret US research/development project that led to the creation of the atomic bomb in WW2. The project's main goal was to develop an atomic weapon before Nazi Germany, which was believed to be working on its own atomic weapons program.
