The point of view change from Echo to Narcissus affects the text by describing Narcissus's sudden love for his own reflection. "No more my shade deceives me, I preserve 'Tis I in thee- I love myself-the flame arises in my breast and burns my heart-what shall I do? Shall I once implore? Or should I linger until my love is sought? What is it I implore? The thing I desire is mine-abundance makes me poor", promotes the idea that Narcissus is in love with his own reflection and what he seeks, he already has. This affects the text by turning the scheme of events from Echo's childish love for Narcissus, to Narcissus's despair of not getting what he desires.

The shift in narrative point of view in paragraph five affects the text as a whole by having the narrator's reaction to Narcissus' idiocy. The point of view shifts from third-person omniscient to second-person, and the evidence provided to support that fact are the words "you and "your". Having the narrator react to the situation allows the reader to understand how critical the situation is. The narrator reacting to Narcissus admiring his own reflection also allows the reader to know what the tone is specifically. "The cheat that you are seeking has no place. Avert you gaze and you will lose your love, for this that holds your eyes is nothing save the image of yourself reflected back to you. It comes and waits with you; it has no life; it will depart only if you go." The narrator's input on the story creates a suspenseful tone on the rest of the myth.

This affects the text because it switches from the telling of Echo's infatuation with Narcissus to focus on Narcissus and his infatuation with himself. This affects the text because it basically switches from one story to another, but the new story picks up from where Narcissus left off on his journey, so the text switched point of views instead of starting a whole new story.

In the myth of Echo and Narcissus, the point of view shifts from that of Echo to that of Narcissus, this was shown and done for the purpose of displaying Narcissus’s hubris, or his extreme pride in himself. An example of this is “Long, supine upon the bank, his gaze is fixed on his own eyes, twin stars; his fingers shaped as Bacchus might desire, his flowing hair as glorious as Apollo's,12 and his cheeks youthful and smooth; his ivory neck, his mouth dreaming in sweetness, his complexion fair and blushing as the rose in snow-drift white.” His gazes upon himself for a long while admiring himself which already showing an amount of vanity that is usually uncharacteristic, and it also demonstrates the cliche that vain people are constantly staring at themselves in a mirror and thinking of how attractive they are. Not to mention he compares himself to the gods, which at the time the god were the greatest things to ever exist they were the ultimatum, they were the smartest, most attractive, they are in a sense perfect to those who worship them, and just all around the best, that is however not say that some people weren’t smart, or attractive, or less than the gods, but with the comparison truly shows his vanity and hubris. There are several more examples of this as well as many things about hubris, vanity, and love.

In paragraph five the point of view changes from third person omniscient to third person limited. This changes the text because we only know Echo's thoughts after paragraph five instead of hers and Narcissus. This changes the story because we can only know of Echo's sorrow instead of knowing the full extent of Narcissus' love for himself. As for example in paragraph six, "But when she saw him in his hapless plight, though angry at his scorn, she only grieved. As often as the love-lore boy complained, “Alas!” “Alas!” her echoing voice returned..." This shows her sorrow but doesn't show Narcissus' thoughts about hearing his reflection calling back to him.

In paragraph 5, the point of view of Echo's briefly shifts to Narcissus's. At first, it was Echo's point of view, describing what she said and what she saw. But, as you moved on throughout the story, it shifts to Narcissus's point of view. In the story, "Echo and Narcissus" it states," There was a fountain silver-clear and bright, which neither shepherds nor the wild she-goats, that range the hills, nor any cattle's mouth had touched—its waters were unsullied—birds disturbed it not; nor animals, nor boughs that fall so often from the trees. " This describes Narcissus's perspective. It tells you the details, such as the fountain silver-clear and bright and other scenery. The passage also informed," While he is drinking he beholds himself reflected in the mirrored pool—and loves; loves an imagined body which contains no substance, for he deems the mirrored shade a thing of life to love. He cannot move, for so he marvels at himself, and lies with countenance unchanged, as if indeed a statue carved of Parian marble.' This text evidence describes his actions and display how it is in his own perspective. Therefore, it briefly shifts the point of view to Echo's and to Narcissus's.

This change in the point of view affects the text as a whole because it shows Narcissus's love and infatuation with himself. It also represents the overall theme for the Greek poem, which is that hubris will lead to the demise of man. The story states, "While he is drinking he beholds

himself reflected in the mirrored pool—and loves; loves an imagined body which contains no

substance, for he deems the mirrored shade a thing of life to love." The reason this effect exists is that:1, Narcissus's mother tried to not let him look at himself. And 2, since Narcissus as never seen himself before, he does not know what to expect when that moment comes. This leads to him to look at himself until he dies.

Because it was told by Echo on the beginning, the reader is aware of Echo’s infatuation for Narcissus. When it switches to Narcissus' point of view, it is made clear to the reader of Narcissuses infatuation for himself. In paragraph 3, the author writes “One day, when she observed Narcissus wandering in the pathless woods, she loved him and she followed him, with soft and stealthy tread. The more she followed him the hotter did she burn, as when the ame ares upward from the sulfur on the torch.” Then, after paragraph 5, the author writes “Nor food nor rest can draw him thence—outstretched upon the overshadowed green, his eyes fixed on the mirrored image never may know their longings satisfied, and by their sight he is himself undone. Raising himself a moment, he extends his arms around, and, beckoning to the murmuring forest…”

The narrative point of view shifts in in paragraph five of the Greek myth "Echo and Narcissus" written by Ovid from a focus on Echo's love and passion for Narcissus to Narcissus' love for himself. Paragraph four describes Echo's love for Narcissus by saying, "Oh, how she longed to make her passion known... to implore his love!" This view shifts in paragraph five to a focus on Narcissus, saying, "While he is drinking he beholds himself reflected in the mirrored pool-and loves; loves an imagines body which contains no substance..." This shift of view affects the text as a whole by effectively changing the main character from Echo, who has withered away into bones and voice, to Narcissus, a man of hubris, or pride. The focus of the story essentially shifts from loving another to loving oneself. This shift helps illustrate the points trying to be made by the story that hubris and infatuation are not wanted qualities in a man or woman.

In the myth, “Echo and Narcissus” by Ovid, the point of view changes from Echo’s perspective of love and endearment for Narcissus to Narcissus’s perspective of love and admiration for himself, and himself onl. This was done to show Narcissus’s extreme pride, or hubris, in himself. For instance, the myth states “ Long, supine upon the bank, his gaze is fixed on his own eyes, twin stars; his fingers shaped as Bacchus might desire, his flowing hair as glorious as Apollo's,12 and his cheeks youthful and smooth; his ivory neck, his mouth dreaming in sweetness, his complexion fair and blushing as the rose in snow-drift white” (Paragraph 5). Narcissus staring longingly at himself characterizes him to be uber vein. He even equates himself to the gods, and at that point in time, was never done, considering the gods were all-knowing and perfect in every single aspect of the word, and no one was even close to being as attractive and as intellectually stable as they were. Not to say that some people weren't attractive or intellectual, however, this was just one of the many examples in the myth "Echo and Narcissus" demonstrating extreme vanity and love for one's self, also known as Hubris.

After Echo is rejected in paragraph 4, the text then switches to Narcissus walking in the woods. The switch then shows how each character sees the world/situation: Echo sees despair in not having Narcissus whereas Narcissus sees himself, and himself only. In conclusion, the switch in point of view between Narcissus and Echo hightlights the twos differences overall.

This affects the story because it changes off of Echo's lust for Narcissus to show how much Narcissus is prideful in himself. He is so prideful that he would sit by a lake and look at himself rather than eat. We get to see how much he loves himself and why he does this in paragraph five. This is why this shift is so important to the story.

Within paragraph five, the text states, "...and in this witless way he wants himself...he seeks, is sought, he burns and he is burnt...but what he sees inflames his longing..." This piece of text is an example of how the switch in perspective shows the reader how Narcissus feels towards his reflection. The switch in point of view further adds depth and understanding to the story, so the reader will not just think Narcissus only admires himself and goes mad for his reflection. The change in point of view in paragraph five pulls the details of the story together and truly belongs within the tale.

"But why, O foolish boy, so vainly catching at this flitting form? The cheat that you are seeking has no place." This quote from the story explains to the reader that what Narcissus is doing is dangerous, because after the reader reads the lines by the narrator, they have an insight to the fact that Narcissus is vain. This points fingers to Narcissus' hubris, or his extreme vanity and pride in himself. Overall, this shift in point of view contributes to the overall theme by proving that vanity and infatuation, with someone else or yourself, will never end well.

In paragraph five of the Greek Myth “Echo and Narcissus” the point of view briefly shifts from Echo’s perspective to Narcissus’ perspective. At first, the text describes and focuses on Echo’s love and affection for Narcissus, but then it shifts to describing Narcissus’ love for himself. In the poem it states, “While he is drinking he beholds himself reflected in the mirrored pool—and loves; loves an imagined body which contains no substance, for he deems the mirrored shade a thing of life to love.” When the point of view shifts from Echo’s to Narcissus’, Ovid makes Narcissus’ infatuation for himself clear to the reader. The shift of point of view also represents the poem’s theme, which is hubris will lead to the death of man. The change of point of view affects the text as a whole because it allows the reader to understand Narcissus’ infatuation for himself and it provides evidence for the overall theme of the myth.

In earlier paragraphs (third person echo's point of view), it shows that "she longed to make her passion known!" while in chapter five (Narcissus's point of view) it says that "in his [Narcissus's] witless way he wants himself." The shift in point of view reveals just how beautiful Narcissus is, that Echo is burning for him and Narcissus has a burning passion for himself. The change in point of view allows to directly show how much he loves himself, as without a point of view centered on Narcissus, readers would have to infer how much he loves himself, which may lead to them understating it. In all, Having the shift in point of view highlights and clears up the knowledge of Narcissus's passion in a way that a third person objective view couldn't

In paragraph five of "Echo and Narcissus," the point of view shifts from Echo's perspective to Narcissus's perspective. In the beginning of the story, it was obvious to the reader that Echo had a strong passion for Narcissus. The author writes, "...she loved him and she followed him...The more she followed him the hotter did she burn, as when the flame flares upward from the sulfur on the torch. Oh, how she longed to make her passion known!" When the point of view shifted to Narcissus's mindset, it was also obvious that Narcissus became infatuated with himself after looking into the fountain. In paragraph five it's written, "...he deems the mirrored shade a thing of life to love. He cannot move, for so he marvels at himself, and lies with countenance unchanged, as if indeed a statue carved of Parian marble. Long, supine upon the bank, his gaze is fixed on his own eyes, twin stars; his fingers shaped as Bacchus might desire, his flowing hair as glorious as Apollo's, and his cheeks youthful and smooth; his ivory neck, his mouth dreaming in sweetness, his complexion fair and blushing as the rose in snow-drift white. All that is lovely in himself he loves, and in his witless way he wants himself: he who approves is equally approved; he seeks, is sought, he burns and he is burnt. And how he kisses the deceitful fount; and how he thrusts his arms to catch the neck that's pictured in the middle of the stream!" And later in paragraph six it says, "Nor food nor rest can draw him thence—outstretched upon the overshadowed green, his eyes fixed on the mirrored image never may know their longings satisfied..." Since Narcissus had such pride in himself it led to the death of him and Echo, such as the Greek saying "Hubris is the downfall to all men."

In Paragraph five of 'Echo and Narcissus,' the point of view changes from that of Narcissus to a narrator that has ties to Echo, overall helping the flow. The change in point of view allows for the reader to get a better view of Narcissus as a character and his relationship, or rather, lack thereof, with Echo. The change also helps tell little observations and details like, "He cannot move, for so he marvels at himself...", that would've otherwise been implied or stated awkwardly. Not only that, but it paints the reader a much broader picture, since Narcissus' point of view focused on himself alone, the reader was unable to grasp the entire scene with ease. The change from a character to a different narrator's point of view helped the text improve its quality and detail.

It does this effectively as it causes the reader to pause and imagine themselves in the situation, making it feel much more vivid and genuine. The switch also does a fantastic job of building suspense and intensity, making the story more entertaining and emotional, hence the line “Avert your gaze and you will lose your love, for this that holds your eyes is nothing save the image of yourself reflected back to you.” The description in that section and the rest of paragraph 5 displays Narcissus’s unadulterated infatuation with himself, which needs to be understood in order for the conclusion to make sense. Concludingly, the brief change in perspective impacts the reader’s perception of the situation and generally makes the story easier to digest.

Without the point of view being changed we might not have been able to see how fond he was over himself. "All that is lovely in himself he loves, and in his witless way he wants himself: he who approves is equally approved; he seeks, he sought, he burns and he is burnt." This shows that Narcissus has a great love for himself and it is proven more now that the point of view has been changed.

The text first starts off by describing and focusing on Echo’s undeniable love for Narcissus, but then after the shift in perspective the text started to describe Narcissus’ infatuation toward with himself.

After the shift, the text states, “ While he is drinking he beholds himself reflected in the mirrored pool—and loves; loves an imagined body which contains no substance…” This change in point of view affects the text as a whole because it allows the reader to see the clear picture of how obsessed Narcissus is with himself, and for the overall theme “hubris is the downfall of man” to grow with ending of Narcissus’ perspective being that he drowned himself in a body of water after trying to show affection towards himself. Without the shift between perspective we would not be able to fully understand Narcissus’ love and passion for himself or Echo’s deep yet disregarded feelings for Narcissus.

Through his view, he comes across a stream untouched by nature, and gazes at his own reflection. Of course this is a fatal action, and one that he'll forever regret. I believe that this shift in point of view brings the story to a more personal level, which helps to teach the lesson that this myth is meant to teach. The whole story of Echo and Narcissus brings about a whole new way of teaching about pride and how, if given to the wrong person, it can prove fatal in more ways than one

The change in point of view shows the extent of Narcissus’ infatuation with himself. “All that is lovely in himself he loves, and in his witless way he wants himself: he who approves is equally approved; he seeks, is sought, he burns and he is burnt.” This infatuation leading to Narcissus’ downfall is the overall meaning of this story. Throughout the story, before this change in point of view we only see Echo’s love for Narcissus and now we are seeing that Narcissus is in love with himself. This is what leads to his downfall in the story. Hubris is the downfall of man.

This is done to show Narcissus' extreme infatuation with himself, this is supported in paragraph five when it states, " He cannot move, for so he marvels at himself, and lies with countenance unchanged, as if indeed a statue carved of Parian marble." This is showing how Narcissus falls in love with himself, when he sees his own reflection in the water, which leads to his death.

The Shift of the narrative point of view in paragraph 5 effects the point of view overall, focusing on Narcissus. The shift also shows the audience what he is thinking/ feeling. Evidence that supports the topic are: “While he is drinking he beholds himself reflected in the mirrored pool-and loves; loves… at himself.” The quote shows that the audience knows about his feelings: that he loves his own reflection. In all, the shift in the point of view in paragraph 5 changes the text as a whole, focusing on Narcissus.

In paragraph 5, the shift describes how Narcissus came to love himself so fully and passionately. As he stared at his reflection in the mirror, he falls deeply "in love" with himself. He feels something he's never felt before, "love." He desperately wants to kiss his reflection, so he tries. He failed and falls in the stream, trying to find this person he feel in love with. As he searches, he drowns. His self-centered love had caused his downfall.

In the 5th paragraph the point of view (PoV) shifts because the story is focusing on Narcissus as he becomes the "more important" subject now. After Echo has had her time in the spotlight of the story it shifts slightly to show "HEY LOOK IM BEAUTIFUL AND DUMB PAY ATTENTION." And I believe that is why is got my descripted and well beautiful. The shift also takes part in Narcissus vain-ity. "He cannot move, for so he marvels at himself and lies with countenance unchanged"
P.S. yes I know vanity is spelled wrong I was trying to make a joke then I looked up the word and it meant the same thing so I just figured it doesn't hurt

In paragraph 5 of the passage “Echo and Narcissus”, the perspective alternates from third person omniscient to second person point of view. The paragraph describes how Narcissus immediately fell in love for himself after seeing his reflection of the water for the first time. Narcissus did not once believe that it was wrong to be infatuated with the image of himself; but instead all he desires is to be with it. Without the narrator actually warning Narcissus, he says “Avert your gaze and you will lose your love, for this that holds your eyes is nothing save the image of yourself reflected back to you. It comes and waits with you; it has no life; it will depart if you will only go.” The narrator uses the pronouns you and your which explicitly shows that the point of view switches to second person. It affects the text as a whole because proves how ignorant and selfish Narcissus really is.
