2018 IST (improving surgical training program) initiated to address concerns about job satisfaction and training time/service provision ratio. Recruitment to this program has currently been paused over concerns that it was not effective!

Future issues: Maintaining surgical training amongst widespread time and financial pressures, centralisation of major surgery and private companies taking over minor surgeries. Introduction of robotic surgery and new training strategies needed to incorporate this into curriculum.
