In my opinion, a behavior becomes a problem when the behavior repeatedly affects the learning opportunities of the other students in the class. Some behaviors I do not see as a big problem if the student affects his/her own learning as these types of behaviors (Distracted, zoning out etc), while still an issue that needs a solution, generally is not disruptive and can be rectified easily through management and guiding the individual on what he/she has missed out on due to that behavior. On the other hand, behaviors that affect other students learning (Fighting, disturbing friends, bullying), will directly affect the learning experience of more than 1 student and I feel that this is not fair to the students who are trying to focus but are unable to due to other students. These behaviors, if not addressed promptly, will tend to affect the overall progress of the class if the class is constantly affected by this behavior which will lead to the class being behind schedule and the teacher needing to catch up in other ways.

A behaviour becomes a problem if it becomes a safety issue towards himself/herself and/or towards the people around them. The learning environment is no longer safe.

Also, it becomes a problem if they are affecting and disrupting the learning in/out the classroom.

Common behaviours such as disrupting the class, talking at the wrong timing etc are tolerable if it is addressed at the start. However, behaviours that affects the safety of the child and the people around them such as throwing stationaries/equipment at their friends should not be taken lightly and should be addressed immediately. Consistency is equally as important as it provides a clear communication and to avoid repetitive behaviour.

For example when a child starts to hit their friends or verbally scream at their friends.

Tolerable behaviour are behaviours where a student did not raise their hand to speak, discussing loudly about a certain topic.

Tolerable behaviour would vary within teachers and the style of their teaching as well. Some teachers needs their students to be absolutely quiet constantly, some teachers are alright with noise so long as the student understand and complete the task given

As an authoritative style teacher, an aggressive that puts safety at risk has to be intervene immediately before it becomes worse and cause physical harm to others. For example, when a student is angry at his friend and has the intention to harm the person by throwing a ball at him. Through the expression, I would like to speak to him before further actions can be made. Inform him of the consequences before hand so that he think of it before acting on his action.

However certain misbehaviour that are minor and low level such as interrupting the class can be handled in the least disruptive way possible by using various verbal or non verbal intervention.

For example, the child is making a lot of noises or disturbing their classmates when the teacher has already mentioned that the class is too noisy or there is an activity on hand that the students are supposed to focus on.

I believe that it is in human's nature to have the need to speak or interact with others, especially for auditory & kinesthetic learners. Therefore, I believe that it is impossible and demanding to request for absolute silence.

A behaviour becomes a problem when safety of the student is being compromised. For example a behaviour could start from disturbing a student and it becomes problem when overtime it the behaviour escalates to bullying. The teacher should address problematic behaviour immediately. During the first week of school the teacher and student should have clear communication of behaviours that are acceptable and not acceptable. Teacher should also be consistent in addressing the issue. For. Example when a student displays a behaviour that could lead to a problem the teacher should immediately address it. On the other hand teacher should use positive reinforcement when a student displays acceptable behaviour. This will motivate other students to display more acceptable and non problematic behaviour.
