After researching bonobos monkeys, scientists found that we are not the only species that likes to "give." The scientists studied wild-born bonobos at the Lola ya Bonobo sanctuary in the Democratic Republic of Congo. What they discovered suggests that our species is not as special as we want to believe. The apes from Africa's Congo Basin, called bonobos, will go out of their way to help strangers get food. This is unique because they do it even when there is no immediate reward. They even help consistently without being asked for help.

This article was about discovering how cool water corals can adapt to a warmer ocean. Through a study, however, it was found that this can only happen if global greenhouse gas emissions are reduced. Corals in the cool waters of the Cook Islands have genetic variants that predispose them to heat tolerance. This suggests that the coral could help its population adapt more quickly to the ocean's rising temperatures. Towards the end of the article, it is discussed how the coral can do this, but might not be able to adapt quickly enough to outdo climate change.

"A new study says Sumatran tigers are increasing in Indonesia's Bukit Barisan NP despite the continued threat of living in an 'In Danger' World Heritage Site." This type of tiger only resides on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The most obvious reasons that they are critically endangered is mostly human fault. They are being poached for their skin, bones and other body parts, are involved in conflict with people, have a depleted prey base, and are losing their habitat.

Scientists and researchers alike have found a relation between air pollution and psychological distress. They discovered that the greater the level of particulates in the air, the greater its impact on our mental health. This is the first study to use a nationally representative survey population, in addition to cross-referencing with pollution data. The researchers did this in order to figure out the connection between toxic air and mental health. Air pollution can be mitigated, however, we simply need the "political will" to remain regulating our air's quality.

Pest resistance to genetically engineered crops is evolving extremely quickly, and researchers have proven this in a comprehensive study. As expected from evolutionary theory, however, resistance can be delayed. It can be pushed back if farmers cooperate with recommendations to make use of abundant other ways to save their crops. "When Bt crops were first introduced in 1996, no one knew how quickly the pests would adapt," said Tabashnik, a Regents' Professor and head of the UA Department of Entomology. Now, we realize that they can develop a tolerance.
