Below, draft a preliminary definition of disability. Questions to think about include: What does it mean to be disabled? What factors influence disability? What systems, institutions, and ideologies shape our understanding of a "healthy" or "ideal" body or mind?

Disability can be broadly defined as a physical or mental impairment that limits a person's ability to engage in everyday activities or participate fully in society. Disabilities can range from mild to severe and may be congenital or acquired at any point during a person's life. They can also be temporary or permanent, and can affect different aspects of a person's life, including mobility, sensory perception, communication, cognition, and emotional well-being.

It is important to note that disability is not solely a medical condition, but is also shaped by social, cultural, and economic factors. Disability is often accompanied by discrimination, marginalization, and exclusion, which can further limit a person's opportunities and participation in society. Therefore, disability is not only a matter of individual impairment, but also a matter of social justice and human rights. A disability-inclusive society is one that recognizes and values the diversity of human abilities and ensures equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their disability status.

the disabled is defined as a negation of what the mainstream society takes to be the abled, including things that are not accepted by the mainstream. The disabled might often be the silenced, oppressed and marginalized. Factors that might influence our perception of disability include many socio-cultural-historic and economic factors. Just finished reading a book called Health Communism, which provides an interesting perspective into how the capitalist society defined and exploited disability.
