Chile was conquered in 1818 by an Argentinian military general, Jose de San Martin after Maipu battle, and was liberated from Spaniards. Then, he began his attack to colonial Spanish army in Peru. San Martin arrived to Peru, disembarking in Paracas Bay on September 8^th, 1820, with his Liberty Army called “Liberty Expedition” and his headquarters were stablished in Pisco City.

Along 1820 and early 1821, there were many battles between Spanish and San Martin army’s. San Martin won many of them. After each triumph, he was going to declare the independence in all  of the cities near the battle place, so, principal cities of the north of Peru were more and more behind San Martin protection, meanwhile Peruvian Andean cities and Alto Peru (today Bolivia) were behind Spaniards.

San Martin was asked by Lima people to get into the city to avoid the pillage of indigenous montoneros. He agreed but instead of it, he requested to convene an open cabildo, so as Lima High life and aristocracy Peruvian independence.  

Lastly, General Don Jose de San Martin proclaimed Peruvian Independence on July28^th 1821, in Lima Main Square.
