Phonics works by breaking up words into individual sounds and then blending them together for proper pronunciation and understanding. 

"Decoding" is a term used for when children are finding understanding and identifying these broken-down words by the letters and sounds individually. This is a great tool so that children don't need to memorize thousands of words but can rather sound out words and can decode them using phonics.

Students will be asked to identify the letter and sound and will then mold a piece of play dough onto the bubble letter. After the student is done molding the play dough they can them identify the object that begin with the letter they identified.
 
This is a great hands-on activity for student to practice letter and sound identification as well as identify beginning sounds in the objects they needed to identify.

Creating an outline for them would be ideal if they’re in the beginning stages of learning their letters.
