         <description><![CDATA[<div>A beautiful and moving animation, illustrating the powerful Morley College EDIF project,&nbsp;<a href="http://www.equalitiestoolkit.com/content/educate-out-prejudice"><strong>Educate out Prejudice</strong></a><strong>.&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>One of the reasons for the success of the animation in particular, is the medium itself. With striking images, text and voice-over, animation is generally accessible and a good tool for students who are developing their English skills, as key words can be picked for further investigation and reinforced.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Sexual Orienteering</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Learners with learning difficulties, particularly those on the autistic spectrum, have difficulties with understanding relationships within an inclusive learning environment.&nbsp;<br><br>This National Star College (a specialist college for learners with disabilities) and Gloucestershire College SFA/ECU GPF project (2014/15) created activities and resources to:</div><ul><li>enable greater understanding of sexual orientation&nbsp;</li><li>a greater ability to recognise diversity in their communities</li><li>make informed choices about their own sexuality</li></ul><div><strong>Resources:</strong></div><ul><li><strong>Blurred Lines</strong>&nbsp;- “The meaning and impact of language”</li><li><strong>Boxed Identities</strong>&nbsp;- “Everyone is different” – change management and gender identity</li><li><strong>Diverse City</strong>&nbsp;- “Exploring different relationships”– relating to the world of work</li><li><strong>How do you feel? - “Difference through mediums”</strong>&nbsp;– a social story&nbsp;</li></ul><div>Teachers who took part in the project grew in their confidence particularly in delivering learning about sexual orientation. The project became a focus to introduce the subject to learners and the resources helped to support the structure of teaching sessions through both activity and discussion.<br><br>The resources were used in formally observed classes in order to assess the impact on learners' understanding of the subject.<br><br>All learners thought the sessions were fun and improved their understanding of:&nbsp;</div><ul><li>gender identity and sexual orientation</li><li>where to seek advice and guidance about sexual orientation and relationships</li></ul><div>Use the link below to access the resources via Ark Hive and find out what they would do differently now.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Seeing equality and diversity as functional skills for the future</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Just as they need functional English and maths, learners must now leave college with a sound understanding of Equality and Diversity in order to function successfully at work and as citizens in a diverse society. <br><br>In 2013/2014, <strong>Fircroft College's EDIF project</strong> tested out three strategies (long course – classroom discreet, short course – classroom embedded, very short course – residential) with a <strong>particular focus on the LGB and T equalities strands </strong>to see which approach was most effective in ensuring the curriculum at college equips learners with these skills. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Findings?<br></strong>Only a third (34.6%) of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) students at college or university participate in organised team sport and one in seven (14.3%) said that homophobia, biphobia, or transphobia had put them off participating in sport.While many LGBT students (37.8%) who do take part in sport are not open about their sexuality with teammates or coaches.<br><strong>Recommendations?</strong></div><ul><li>tackle the wider issue of homophobia /biphobia/ transphobia in schools (48.3%).</li><li>sports teams publicly demonstrate their inclusiveness, and make clear they will not tolerate abuse.</li><li>students’ unions to take a lead in ensuring that sports facilities, teams and staff are LGBT- friendly and that schools teach LGBT inclusiveness in sports.&nbsp;</li></ul>]]></description>
