He was the first scientist to study ballistics/firearms, he also studied patterns of blood spatter. His contributions have improved forensic science in great ways. Like I said beofre, a really important trial that he helped out in is the 1895 trail of Joseph Vacher who was found guilty of murdering a local girl. He accomplished a lot for the science community before he died on September 24, 1924. He graduated from the Institute of Legal Medicine in Lyon, France; he also worked as a professor there for much of his life. While he taught there, Edmond Locard became one of his assistants. He did however have time to teach and participate on other cases. He did so by comparing and counting the grooves/lands imprinted in the bullet. He also wrote and published his own article, La Deformation des Balles de Revolver, in the Archive de Antropologie Criminelle et des Sciences Penales.
