Women did not have a lot of rights during this time. Women belonged to their fathers and then once married to their husbands. If a widow, women were able to own property and take control of their own life. However, they would be expected to marry again, to have a man to protect her. Women were also not allowed on stage, if there was a women's role, a male would play it.

Women’s role in Elizabethan England during 1500–1600 were to get married to a man and become domesticated. They would be controlled by their husband, and would have kids depending on the husband. Woman were not allowed to make their own choices without the presence of a male relative. Single women were seen as suspicious and thought to be witches. If women did not do as told, they would be given a punishment. For example they would be beaten or go through a harsh domestication.

Compare and Contrast Women of That Time Period vs Today -Jocelyn

Women in that time period had little to no opportunities, unlike now where women have unlimited possibilities. One of the things that are different from women then, is that they were not allowed to go to school, with the exception of those born in a rich family. While now, any women can go to school if they wanted to. Apart from not having many opportunities, women from then could get married at the age of 12, but their parents had to give them permission. Women from then were very controlled by men. On the other hand, women now can get married at the age of 16. One of the things that are similar from these two times is that women still had the right to have as many kids as they wanted. Although, the two time periods don't have many similarities, the differences they did have before are no longer an issue, and women are getting the rights they deserve.

The Queen was a woman, but what about the rest of the females?-Mike

The Queen of Elizabethan England was highly respected compared to the other women because she was of royalty. Even women in households that were rich could not compare against the Queen, because of the hierarchy in the society so it meant nothing. Queen Elizabeth I also was praised upon because she fixed many issues. For example she created the "Protestantism act" to keep people involved in church and create a friendly environment. The Queen also defeated the Spanish Armada in 1588. That is why Queen Elizabeth was highly respected compared to common women.
