City Tour

On Monday afternoon at 17.00 there is a city tour when you will have the chance to get to know the culture and history of San Cristobal de La Laguna, with a knowledgable guide.

You will walk around three or four kilometres, over flat city streets, so wear comfortable shoes! If you are in Tenerife with friends or family, they may come on the walk with you.

Pack for all weathers!

Tenerife has a reputation as a year-round holiday resort, with clement weather in all seasons. This is mainly true in Santa Cruz, however the island has many 'micro-climates'. Your excursions may take you to the city of La Laguna which is at 900m above sea level and its climate varies from very hot and dusty to beautiful and warm, through to cold and rainy. Or to the cloudy forests, shadeless hot coastlines or to windy high altitudes.

Regardless of the season, please pack for all weathers! What is more, for this course you will also need good walking shoes and swimwear!

It is a traditional Canarian - style building which forms part of the UNESCO world heritage centre. A five - minute walk from the Trinidad tram stop and from the pedestrian streets of the historic city centre, the academy is conveniently located near many small cafes and restaurants.

Hello, I'm Dominic from the UK, and I'm going to be one of your course trainers.

For 17 years I've been a TESOL teacher, co-ordinator, examiner, exam-preparer, and translator, working with learners aged from 3 to 73 years(!)

Most recently I've taught in local schools: English, CLIL P.E. & CLIL Natural Science to infants and primaries, and Cambridge English exam preparation to teens.

I studied in Liverpool and Manchester, before heading out to teach in South America, Morocco, before settling on Tenerife. At Europass I've created, developed, and taught courses on various aspects of CLIL, plus Outdoor Learning, Artificial Intelligence in education, and more.

My name's Maja Balcerzyk and I'm your trainer for this course! I've been working as an English and German teacher and a teacher trainer for the past 14 years. During this time I've lived in many countries around the world including Germany, UK, Peru, Chile and Morocco. Now I'm based on the island of Tenerife, Spain.
I was born and grew up in the
Polish town of Zakopane. I studied at the University of Leeds (BA Cultural Studies) and the University of Manchester (MA TESOL). I love hiking and taking my dogs for walks.

My name is Marta Arroyo Vidal, and I'll be one of your trainers on this course.I am a Canary native, and love sharing the peculiarities, gastronomy, geography and culture of my land.

I have spent time in the Spanish mainland teaching public speaking and emotional intelligence, amongst other subjects.

I've studied more traditional approaches to pedagogy as well, on my Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude. I love using Gamification, CLIL and ICT for education, both indoors and outdoors to tap into learners different strengths and brain powers.

I'm looking forward putting all my experience and knowledge at your service, helping you grow in your capacity to connect with your students effortlessly, by using easy and creative ICT tools and resources.

The plants of Tenerife: endemic and invasive species of Canary flora
The turbulent history of Taganana: learning and expressing with a Multiple-Intelligences approach

Day 3: Life on the Coast

Location: excursion to the coastal natural reserve of Malpaís de Güímar

Experience it: exploration of the volcanic rock formations
Multiple Intelligences: learn about the natural and human history of the Güímar valley region

Day 4: Aboriginal people of the Canary Islands

Location: Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA), Santa Cruz

Experiential learning in a museum - make a visit more student-centered, active, and engaging
Discovering the mysterious origins and fascinating culture of the indigenous people and their islands

Hello. I am Laura Saario and I am from Finland. I work as a TUVA-teacher in Hyvinkää, Finland. TUVA means Preparatory education for an upper secondary qualification. It is a year long education between basic education and upper secondary education. My students are 15-19 years old.

I try to use versatile teaching methods like excursions and arts, but I would like to learn how to make bigger teaching units with experiental learning.

I love going to sauna in my freetime. I also like movies, music and eating. I like trying new things. I think it is important try to tie school environment to the real world, and experiental learning is a great tool for that! See you soon.
