After a very long hiatus of three years, Lorde comes back with an album that continues to encapsulate her unique musical style and bring some new elements, as well. While I believe her album was overall good, I do not think the album was perfect. I believe some of the songs did not stand out as individual songs enough. Some of her songs such as "Writer in the Dark" and "Hard Feelings" were particularly unique in musical style and themes. The song "Writer in the Dark" included Ben Ratliff's views transmission from his novel, "Every Song Ever". Lorde's emotions in this song are expressed very well, more so than all of her other songs on this album. The song "Hard Feelings" encapsulates Ben Ratliff's ideas of audio space. The song includes a lot of background sounds such as screeching and the creaks of a gate opening and closing. This sound adds to the musical quality and gives it depth and absence of sound at different points in the song. These songs greatly enhance Lorde's album.
