YES! and...while it was nice to have all of these different theoretical/pedagogical approaches I wondered if this was the equivalent of affinity spaces, it seems divisive or counter-intuitive until you delve into it. I wonder how you can scaffold this for teachers so they can start to implement these concepts/frameworks in their teaching practices?

I really liked the subsection where Meyer talked about how ignoring homophobia leads to/teaches intolerance. I thought that was an extremely strong point and I felt like it is something that is only now just getting addressed.

The administrators viewed the students as future Purdue Chicken packaging plant workers (that was the main employer in the are) and so their education was focused entirely on learning how to follow directions and obey authority.

This article was useful in the fact that it linked Reproduction Theory clearly to capitalism and talked about the spectrum the theorists were on. On one extreme it was a deterministic approach and on the other more culturally attuned models. It reinforced how much of a hold capitalism has on our educational system and it concerns me as in the UK, educators have recently been told that it will be illegal to be anti-capitalist teachers. So what do we do when we read research that shows the terrible effect capitalism has on education?

I appreciated reading this piece because it clearly aligned how capitalist values are entrenched and reiterated in the educational system to continue the cycles of socioeconomic hardship for lower-class students. It forced me to reflect on how i uplift/stigmatize/essentialize certain life paths over others; or whether me choosing to push my students to want "better," or what I view as better, is actually depreciating the lives they come from.

I often wonder how and who would be educated differently if we lived in a system that didn't require the backbone of capitalism. Using reproduction theory was beneficial in terms of positioning where many students end up and what quality of education they have access to.
