Remote sensing is the process of detecting and monitoring the physical characteristics of an area by measuring its reflected and emitted radiation at a distance,We can use satellites and CCTV to monitor the changes of the grand canal in a very swift way, by doing this, we can see the change of the canal clearly and thoroughly, we can also use satellites to collect data and build a 3d model for renovating the canal without any bad impact. remote sensing technology can help get all the data that is needed ,the other ways can't get the data, without databases, all the other ways,is totally useless.

Our group chooses Smart Water Management System. Our ancestors were very successful at managing water, so they were more comfortable using this management system. It is easier for them to protect the building. And this technology helps us address the root cause of the problem. So we don’t have to spend a lot of money and time on fixing the building over and over again. Not only can it protect buildings, but it can also prevent some natural disasters at the same time.We can build some dams and some waterwheels to help generate electricity.According to the rise and fall of the water level, the valves are opened and closed regularly to ensure that the dangerous water level will not be exceeded, thereby flooding surrounding buildings and residential areas.

1. Real-time Monitoring and Water Quality Assessment:

GIS can be utilized to monitor the water quality and water level of the Grand Canal in real-time. By regularly collecting coordinates of mobile monitoring targets from operational systems or GIS and displaying them on maps, it's possible to effectively monitor real-time changes in water quality and water levels. This is crucial for preventing and managing potential environmental issues.

2. Risk Modeling and Prediction:

GIS can be employed for modeling and predicting risks associated with the Grand Canal, such as floods or pollution leaks. By simulating different risk scenarios, preemptive solutions can be developed to address unexpected events.

3. Successful Examples:

In China, there is a successful example of GIS application in the Hangjing Canal, which has achieved good results. Researchers have established a five-index model that connects heritage sites and historical events, revealing the degree of interrelation between them. Additionally, teams have comprehensively organized cultural heritage sites along the canal through literature reviews and field surveys, providing a solid data source for further studies.

4. Cultural Heritage Protection:

GIS technology is also used for the protection of cultural heritage along the Grand Canal. Spatial analysis methods in GIS, such as kernel density analysis, nearest neighbor analysis, centroid analysis, and standard deviation ellipse methods, have been used to study the distribution of 104 cultural heritage sites along the Suzhou section of the canal across six historical periods and discuss the influencing factors of distribution evolution.

5. Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Protection and Utilization:

GIS technology reveals the non-uniform distribution of different types of ICH resources along the Grand Canal and proposes ICH regeneration and utilization plans based on local factors. This includes strengthening regional cooperation, developing tourism projects to showcase ICH resources near the canal, and establishing digital protection systems for ICH.

In summary, the application of GIS technology in the Grand Canal is multifaceted, including real-time monitoring, risk prediction, cultural heritage protection, and the protection and utilization of intangible cultural heritage. These applications have achieved certain successes and effects.
