         <description><![CDATA[<div>He studied at the Crypt Grammar School and was a pupil to english poet T.E Brown who was the headmaster at that  time. He recieved a degree im LLD, but failed to be a English professor in the University of Edingburgh.<br>At he age of 12 he was diagnosed with tubercular arhtritis.<br>When he was 16 years old his left leg was amputated because of his tuberculosis. In august 1873 Henley traveled to Edinburgh to request the services of the English surgeon Joseph Lister. Lister was able to save Henley's remaining leg. While recovering in the infirmary Henley wrote the poem “Invictus” , that is still to this day a cultural touchstone.<br>After he recovered, Henley started a short publishing carrer. He anonymously contributed tons of poems to the journal, some of which have been termed "brilliant"</div>]]></description>
