My students were from 4th grade to 9th grade. What's the difference between me and them? Well, I was surprised to see that some of my students not only just followed my instruction to draw a picture or write a program, but try to create or design something. When I, a computer technology teacher who was born in 1990s, still used a traditional way to teach them how to use a software step by step, my students already knew how to learn beyond my instruction. Not to mention they had already how to use a mobile phone, iPad or camera at a very young age. The new generation has the ability to know the world by using technology. Thus, digital natives do exist.
Our instructional methods are out-of-date, obviously. The problem is, how we change them. When I was young, Powerpoint was still a new thing. Teachers used it to attract students' attentions. But now, even if teachers want to try something new, students are more willing to watch their own mobile phone screen. We can say today's digital natives have multitask processing ability.
