Summary

Rosa Parks was a civil rights activist. On December 1, 1955, after a hard day's work at a Montgomery department store, Rosa Parks boarded the Cleveland Avenue bus. She took a seat in the first of several rows designated for "colored" passengers. While operating a bus, drivers were required to provide separate but equal accommodations for white and black passengers by assigning seats, white in the front and "colored" in the back. After a couple stops the bus got filled with white people and a few were standing in the aisle, so the driver decided to move the sign a row back and made the "colored" people get up and move to the back, Rosa was one of them. She refused and she remained seated. The driver called the police and later had her arrested. A boycott of Montgomery's city buses had started.
If Parks decided to get up and move out of her seat that day, things would be different. It would've taken the civil right movement longer to become what it did because of her. All Parks really wanted to change was equal rights between "colored" people and whites. She wanted to abolish segregation.

Reflection

This cause is very important to me because so many people are treated differently just because of there skin color, and that's not how it should be. Everyone should be treated equal because we are all human. Rosa is a huge role model because she stood up for herself even though she knew she would've had a consequence. She didn't care about going to jail, she just wanted to make a point and show she want's things to change. Actions I could take to promote this is to treat everyone with respect and treat everyone the same even if they are "colored". Also if people see others respecting "colored" people, I think they will start to respect them to. If one person does it then other people will to.
