Adam + eve – they didn’t know about good + evil – so were happy – they didn’t have self-awareness - they were naked + weren’t aware of observation

-            Religion is ignorance from self awareness à inherent ignorance – blind trust – ‘life by faith not by sight’ – bible quote

-            Naïve – that someone is looking after you

-            Searching for meaning in everything

-            We need to know we are needed for something

-            Fallen angel -we want to become angels

Maybe the aesthetic of religion is also just as important to us – as this is the true convincing factor – what type of life we want to live – what type of category of human we want to graduate into

• femininity + desire for perfection - punishment through bleeding + a visual terror - losing one's beauty, becoming a aberration of nature

• beauty over everything, danger of plastic surgery (bbls have high mortality rate)

• tied into femininity as 'other' - and female traits as hysteria - lobotomy - keeping women in line, taking women's agency - become zombies - infantilises her

• beauty standards keep women in line - appearance being the most important aspect of her personhood - she must strive for beauty + perfection (whatever that means in that particular time) over any internal facets --> pain and danger of cosmetics - numbing her brain, focusing her attention on this rather than the condition iof her own oppression

• hating oneself is a powerful tool of oppression - women told to change, hate themselves + hate each other to reproduce the patriarchy themselves - so men don't have to enforce these things constantly if women are enforcing it on themselves and each other

• recession body - controlling + policing women's bodies during a time of particular lack of control - a way for men to gain control over women AND for women to feel in control of themselves also - but a hungry person is a weak person - she can not fight or think if she is hungry

• the substance - melodramatises the idea of female bodies as an aberration from nature - and the painful dtrive for beauty --> body horror, blood, gore
