My goal is to work with students who are in grades kindergarten through second grade.

The purpose of this assignment is to collect contextually situated data on the salient elements of print-rich, culturally responsive, and literate classroom environments including a) provisioning the classroom with literacy tools, b) arranging classroom space and literacy tools, c) gaining students’ interest and engagement in literacy events, and d) sustaining students’ interpersonal interactions with instructional materials. Artifacts and observational data are to be gathered and analyzed to provide a rich profile of the literacy classroom environment and the diverse learners within it.

This assignment supported my growth as a future educator because I was able to see and analyze the physical aspects of a classroom. I was also able to gain ideas on what I would incorporate in my classroom to create a print rich environment.

Students who are intrinsically motivated to read and learn do so because they expect positive and successful experiences. Intrinsic motivation has been linked to the amount of reading, students’ successful use of comprehension strategies, and their growing sense of competence (Schiefele & Schaffner, 2016, as cited in Dewitz, Graves, Graves, Juel, 2019, p.68). In order to determine how intrinsically motivated students are to read it is important for teachers to gather information directly from the student.

This assignment supported by growth as a future educator because it provided me the opportunity to apply my thinking to a real world scenario by finding a student who showed low motivation to read appropriate books to read to encourage reading.
