The many domestic issues that the United States of America can figuratively stretch farther than America's land goes. From American systems corrupted, to Racial blockage in the housing market. And simply the effects of institutional racism on this once proud nation. Plus, as a nation classified as a “superpower”, we have the obligation to take on the world's problems one at a time. But with so many domestic issues in our country we should take a break from our superpower status, and look internally, before we look externally, towards the numerous problems of our country. America has to focus on many domestic policies, rather than police the world regarding foreign policies that do not affect humankind significantly. The significant effect to humankind as a whole entails genocide and issues on that level.

John Stossel, an expert on this topic, details that world policing is costing America billions and maybe trillions of dollars(1). This money instead of being used to garner support for internal domestic issues, is being used for external foreign issues that are pointless to the development of America as a superpower. 35 Billion dollars was spent on foreign economic aid in 2015 (4). That 35 billion is being spent on pointless things outside the US. This money could be used to combat institutional racism, police brutality, poor treatment of American Indians, alcoholism, and the infringement of our rights. This would help our country resolve very important issues, and lead to more money being available to aid the world later. All of these issues could be combatted, but with this useless money spending outside the US these very important issues cannot be fixed, instead they are being left untamed.

Alcoholism can lead to many bad times in many people's lives. The effects of alcoholism can be left on families for generations. As a teenager, I have dealt with alcoholism, from people I know, to family. My experiences with this, lead to opinions on the state of America. The state of America is affected by drug and alcohol abuse. But there are also many other issues that need to be tended to. These issues along with alcoholism should be looked at with a more curious eye, and we should not stop with all of the systems set up now, and create more.

When I was in northern or middle California this summer. I was with my uncle whom my family had suspected was an alcoholic for many years. He was my dad's brother, and my dad knew well that he did indeed drink, but he thought that that was back in the day. Little did my family and I know that he was still an alcoholic and he fought with his wife often. I flew from here over to him and we drove to his house in the mountains. On the way back to his house we stopped at a sushi place. We ordered food, but he got a beer, which was abnormal to me, because my dad NEVER ordered drinks. Anyway, for the next two days he was relatively clean. But then again during those two days I found out later he was high on Marijuana some of the time at night. One night we stopped in at a Tavern. And of course he ordered some alcohol.“16.3 million adults ages 18 and older had an AUD in 2014. This includes 10.6 million men (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism).” He was visibly drunk when we left, but he drove me home. The next night we planned to go to an Oakland A’s game. We went, but at the very beginning he made an excuse to go back to the car. He came back so drunk he was wobbling all over the place. At this point I'm freaking out.

“Uncle Steve, how much have you had to drink?” I said.

“Umm, well I’m only two beers drink.” He slurred.

“Are you sure?”

I could tell that he was more than two beers in, he had at least had four or five, plus the one before the game that we stopped in a tavern at the harbor. I could not focus on the game, even though the Cubs were winning, I could not focus on anything, except how I was going to get out of this.

The family in front of me gave me their number,
"Dear, we see that tonight has not been the best for you." The mother said in her thick southern accent.
"Thanks so much." I detailed in response.
And the guy to my left, let me charge my phone to call my mom.
"Hey, you can borrow this if you want..."
He then handed me a phone charger block.I called my mom telling her that my uncle was really drunk. My dad who was in India called me and then we got cut off. The ushers came down and told me they wanted to kick him out of the game. The game finally ended after he had drank 5 to 6 beers. And the family who gave me their number helped follow me outside. He was so drunk that he couldn't find the car, so I purposefully walked around for an hour and a half until he was semi okay to drive. The family from earlier sent their two kids around and they followed. The police were driving around and stopped us walking around every now and then.
"Sir, can you stop for a second."
Over and over this occurred until it was ringing in my head. When I let him find the car, he took my phone because he said it made my parents worry, and then he drove home crazily. He was going 90 on the freeway and was going from line to line. And on the mountain road he did not stop for a dear and kept turning of and on his lights. And I didn't get my phone back until 3:30 in the morning after hearing him and his wife yell all night. I got 51 calls from my mom and 13 calls from my very nice aunt. And I thought it was all over. But with the PTSD and the trauma, is it over?
