Primary research is also known as field research, this involves the gathering of new data that has never been collected before. An example of this would surveys as they are basically questionnaires or interviews within groups of people in a focus group.

Secondary Research
Secondary research is also known as desk research, this is when information that has already been produced however perhaps not fully acknowledged. This could be from the internet, newspaper and company reports

  • Primary Research is research which is being carried out for the first time. it is new information which is being discovered and developed based around a topic.
  • Secondary Research is research which has already been developed and found out. People use secondary research to get a better understanding of certain topics or they build upon the secondary research.
  • Similarities: is that both primary and secondary are both forms of research despite how the research was found or collected. They both help improve/gain information.
  • Differences: one of the main differences between the two is how the research is collected. Primary research is collected through questionnaires, interviews and one to one conversations. Whereas, secondary research is found on the internet and autobiography's.
