However, it increased slightly to almost 24 hours in 2002 and 2003 before falling back to 20 hours in 2005, making it the most efficient manufacturer in the final year. Similarly, Honda's production time fluctuated between 20 and 24 hours but did not show any significant changes over the long term.

Looking at the charts in more details, there was a mild fluctuation in the number of hours Toyota needed to manufacture a car by one hour in 1999, the figure then quickly declined by one hour in 2001. The average amount of time Toyota used to make a car considerably increased from 22 to 24 hours in 2002, which at this point Toyotas figure was going neck and neck with that of Hondas, the figure remained stable until 2003 and significantly declined by 4 hours at the end of the period. Despite a noticeable decrease by 2 hours in 1999, a considerable increase was recorded in the average amount of time Honda needed to make a car by 2 hours in 2002. The time Honda needed to manufacture a vehicle witnessed a sharp decline from 24 down to 21 hours in 2003, after that, the number gradually declined to 20 hours by the end of the period.
