Working in the food/ beverage industry provides many opportunities, even in fast food. With that being said, being in such a high volume and public workforce can lead to unnoticed issues as well such as:

Employee Capacity: 1 of 7 people in the United States works in the food industry. This creates a highly competitive environment where even on the beginner levels you're competing with more than 10% of America for a job.

Industrial Pyramid: The majority of the estimated 20 million
food service jobs available are low-wage jobs. This means only a small percentage of those in the industry actually gain enough profit to thrive in the U.S. economy.

Identity & Safety: Due to the fact that the majority of the food industry has yet to be automated, humans are the main producers and distributors of food and beverage. So jobs like servers, deliverers, cooks, and even owners are all accessible to the public. Making it comparatively easier to harass, stalk, or abuse someone in the foodservice industry rather than in other industries where you'd only interact with peers and higher-ups.

Living and working are both impossible without the proper diet. Luckily, in America food insecurity has been decreasing since 2011. However, 35% of households with income below the federal poverty line are food insecure. To provide perspective, as of 2020 37.2 million were considered to be in poverty. That's an estimated 13 million people who are recorded as food insecure.

The issue with food insecurity is that it goes unnoticed in most industries. This means that every day 1 in 10 workers will go to work with not enough resources to take care of themselves when they are home.
