Walter never deign his pride to anyone. Especially when he found George being a little condescending he had to say something about it. He is super prideful about his dreams and goals he doesn't take anyone's word or advice. This poem reminds me of something Ruth would write to her husband Walter. It fits Walter perfectly, Ruth probably would not be with Walter if she did not adore him.
