<title>The story takes place in Ohio during the 1960s close to the end of the Great Migration era. This setting has set up the story for having a real life scenario of what life was like for African Americans who moved North during the Great Migration. It has been important for the characters as it shows how they deal with different kinds of racism and experiences since they are living in the Northern United States. -Logan G</title>

<title>A theme I have seen in this book is that beauty standards play a role in a persons life at a very young and can have a very negative impact on how they see themselves. &quot;A little black girl who wants to rise up out of the pit of her blackness and see the world with blue eyes.&quot; (174) This quote helps show that Pecola believes that if she can make herself fit in with the white beauty standards she might be able to avoid oppression for being black in a racist America. - Logan G</title>

<title>They live in a small town, with both white and Black people, and with recent and non recently migrated. This sets up some conflict for people like Pauline, who is from the south and doesn&#39;t get along with the Black women in the town. </title>

<title>Another theme is family. In each characters story, family plays an important role. Morrison shows us through the wide variety of characters, also the wide variety of family, to break stereotypes of Black family. She uses strong families like Claudia and Frieda&#39;s to show how protective we are of each other. And she shows Cholly and Pauline in Pecola&#39;s family as broken and hurt because of their past, and the choices they make to harm each other.</title>

<title>Sorry to be dark but, I dont see a happy future for Pecola. I think for many of the other characters they will grow and become whole again, no matter what has happened. But Pecola has fully immersed herself in believing she has blue eyes. She will live thinking that, and be in her own world for the rest of her life. Because of the story it is, I don&#39;t think anyone will get justice. </title>
