The Dutch traders found the Manhattan region is rich with raw materials, especially furs, that could be shipped Holland for a profit. On December 1625, Peter Minuit was selected to be governor of New Netherland, and he arrived at New Amsterdam and offered to pay them "$24 worth of beads and "trinkets." If they will give him Manhattan and they agreed with New Netherland. But, a fun fact is that now if you try and buy it it will cost you  $1.74 Trillion! The first settlers weren't actually "Dutch" but French-speaking Walloons from Holland and Huguenots from France seeking a better life. Another thing is lots of colonists had already gave away 7,000 beaver skins!!!
